Primary Purpose:
Ensure safe and orderly school crossing of students at school campuses.
This is a part-time position responsible for safeguarding and regulating pedestrian traffic crossing streets at an assigned location in order to ensure the safety of children walking to and from school. Assists people needing directions. Works approximately two hours per day, Monday through Friday, during the public school year, excluding school holidays and non-school days.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections.
Watches for gaps in traffic and walks children across the roadway or intersection while holding a “stop” sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.
Follows oral and written instructions.
Stops traffic as needed to allow children to cross streets.
Wear safety equipment at all times while working.
Signals to children when crossing streets is safe; observes children for safe and proper crossing.
Works to establish a positives relationship with children and parents.
Attends training classes and/or meetings as requested.
Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strive for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.
Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Requires the ability to deal tactfully, but firmly with the public and to effectively enforce traffic laws and established rules and policies for crossing guard operations. Ability to rapidly analyze various situations and to think and act quickly and reasonably in emergency situations. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Must be very reliable and committed to attending the crossing daily. Shall be in physical condition that will permit adequate job performance.
