The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is seeking a compassionate individual to manage our foster care program who is passionate about animals and providing excellent customer service to our foster parents. The ability to multi-task and communicate effectively is a must. 

  • SUMMARY: This position is responsible for all aspects of the foster care program which includes: organizing the fostering of animals and being the first point of contact with fosters. This role also, position is primarily responsible for assisting veterinarians in providing care to animals through hands on work with animals.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Supervises and arranges the assignment of animals to foster families.
    • Provides initial supplies and equipment and reiterates instructions from orientation regarding foster needs, etc.
    • Responds in a timely manner to foster parent’s questions via email or phone.
    • Works closely with other staff members/volunteers to assist the foster parent in all aspects of getting the animal ready for adoption.
    • Builds strong and supportive relationships with foster parents to ensure open communication and encourages them to consider fostering on a regular basis.
    • Performs foster checks, not limited to administering vaccines, administering medications, recording weights, diagnostics, recording treatments, and scheduling appropriate vet checks.
    • Manages the file (PDF) incoming foster applications
    • Screens and approves/denies new foster applications (check personal references, etc.)
    • Keeps track of and administers medications to foster parents (including heartworm & flea preventatives).
    • Interacts with volunteers.
    • Keeps track of all equipment used by fosters (crates, beds, bowls, leashes, ID tags, etc.)
    • Maintains database on each fostered animal.
    • Maintains client, donor, volunteer and staff confidentiality at all times.
    • Responsible for on-call and after-hour phone calls for the foster phone.
    • Completes all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with shelter policy.
    •Cross-trained in procedures for Exam, Intake, as well as Surgery and may be utilized when staff shortages occur.
    • Provides management with required shelter reports on a routine basis.
    • May be asked to assist with euthanasia procedures as needs occur.
    • Required to attend staff meetings.
    • Participates in shelter events as requested by Medical Services Manager.
    •Enters medical notes and charges into client files.
    •Provide excellent customer service for the public and internal staff.
    •Takes physical inventory and helps with ordering of supplies.
    •Assists veterinarians in other duties as assigned.
    • Helps with administration of inoculations, microchipping and worming of all animals placed for adoption. Oversees grooming of all animals, which includes but is not limited to; bathing, temperature taking, nail trimming and ear cleaning.
    • Administers medications and/or treatments on animals selected for additional care as determined by Shelter Veterinarian.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    •High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required,
    •One to three months in a supervisor role or related experience and/or training preferred.
    •Computer skills: Microsoft Office
    •Other skills required: Excellent Customer service and a sense of urgency and compassion
