DIRECTOR OF DATA PLATFORM

Key Responsibilities 

  • Define and own the enterprise data platform strategy, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with business objectives. 

  • Lead modernization of core platforms, guiding the evolution from legacy to next-generation data and analytics capabilities. 

  • Drive adoption of AI/ML enablement, establishing frameworks (MLOps, LLMOps, GenAI) that accelerate business innovation. 

  • Oversee enterprise visualization platforms and data access, enabling trusted, self-service insights for business stakeholders. 

  • Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. 

  • Influence executives and business leaders, translating complex platform strategies into clear business outcomes. 

  • Ensure operational excellence, including cost optimization, resilience, and standardized engineering practices. 

  • Champion data security, AI governance, ethics, and RBAC, embedding them as foundational principles in all platform operations. 

  • Foster a culture of change and continuous improvement, ensuring the organization adapts and thrives through platform transformation. 

Essential Skills for Data Platform Director:  

  • Enterprise Data Platform Expertise 

  • Deep understanding of modern data platforms (data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouses), with hands-on experience in technologies such as Databricks, Teradata, and major cloud-native data services. 

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale management, integrations, or transformations of enterprise data ecosystems 

  • Strong Automation background. 

  • Cloud & Architecture Leadership 

  • Strong architectural knowledge of leading cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks, GCP, AWS, Azure) and how to design scalable, resilient, and cost-effective solutions. 

  • Experience aligning hybrid/legacy systems with modern cloud-based architectures to enable seamless evolution. 

  • AI/ML Platform Enablement 

  • Expertise in operationalizing AI and ML through MLOps, LLMOps, and GenAI platforms, including governance, monitoring, and reusability frameworks. 

  • Ability to evaluate and introduce new AI technologies responsibly, with attention to bias, data ethics, and security. 

  • Data Governance & MDM 

  • Strong knowledge of Master Data Management principles and the ability to stand up MDM platforms at enterprise scale. 

  • Ability to embed governance practices across ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption layers without slowing down innovation. 

  • Visualization & Self-Service Analytics 

  • Skilled in leading enterprise visualization strategies (e.g., Tableau, Looker, PowerBI) and enabling self-service insights for business users. 

  • Experience scaling platforms that support advanced analytics and democratized data use across a wide range of stakeholders. 

  • Security, Risk & Compliance 

  • Advanced understanding of data security, encryption, access control, and incident response in regulated environments. 

  • Strong grasp of global data privacy and protection regulations (TDPSA, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.) and ability to translate them into actionable policies and practices. 

  • Risk management mindset with experience proactively identifying, mitigating, and communicating risks. 

  • Reusable Frameworks & Operational Excellence 

  • Track record of creating standardized, reusable data pipeline frameworks and automation to reduce duplication and accelerate delivery. 

  • Emphasis on observability, reliability engineering, and cost optimization to ensure sustainable data platform operations. 

  • Leadership & Organizational Influence 

  • Exceptional ability to lead, coach, and grow high-performing teams across data engineering, platform operations, and data science enablement. 

  • Skilled at stakeholder engagement, aligning diverse business and technology teams around a shared vision and roadmap. 

  • Strong communication skills to translate complex technical topics into clear business value narratives. 

  • Strategic Vision & Innovation 

  • Ability to define and execute multi-year data platform strategies that anticipate future technology shifts and business needs. 

  • Proven experience balancing near-term delivery with long-term architecture and innovation
