Position Summary
The Associate Director (AD) of Member Services & Learning Engagement in the Enterprise Data and Information Strategy (EDIS) Department is responsible for overseeing two distinct teams of professionals. The member services team who support NEA’s member services applications, membership policy, and the Learning Engagement team focusing on development, curation, and delivery of learning resources related to affiliates ability to retain, gain and support members. This role ensures the effective integration of affiliate and member-facing technologies with learning and knowledge management strategies, enabling affiliates, members, and NEA staff to fully leverage NEA’s systems and services. The AD reports to the Director of EDIS in the Center for Innovation and Technology (CIT) and works collaboratively across NEA Centers and state affiliates to ensure they have the tools, knowledge and ability to support our members and grow & strengthen our union.
Responsibilities
The Associate Director acts as a key bridge between business needs and learning content, ensuring that technical and policy solutions are clearly translated into accessible resources that enhance the member experience while supporting our affiliates and member service needs.
Leadership & Management
Provide day-to-day leadership and coaching to a team of staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
Oversee performance management, resource allocation, and workflow prioritization to ensure timely delivery of services.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and affiliate-member-focused service delivery.
Member Applications & Services
Guide the team in the use of NEA360 and related member service management tools in analyzing business needs, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with product and development teams to translate business solutions that improve usability and efficiency for affiliates, members, and headquarters staff.
Ensure compliance with membership policy and effective implementation across applications and platforms.
Promote efficiency in business processes and modernization of support with implementation of Salesforce-based NEA Case Management.
Learning Management & Knowledge Integration
Lead the development, curation, and management of learning materials and knowledge resources that support member & affiliate member applications and services.
Work with Customer Service to provide process around knowledge articles which support Enterprise Applications, curation in NEA360 Knowledge Platform
Partner with stakeholders to translate complex policies, processes, and into user-friendly training and reference materials.
Ensure all learning resources are accessible, engaging, and integrated into NEA360 knowledge platform and NEA Case Management 2.0
Product & Cross-Center Collaboration
Partner with Product and Development teams to translate business needs and policy requirements into clearly defined features within product lines.
Collaborate closely with Center for Organizing, Center for Governance, and the Office of General Counsel to support strategic business and programmatic goals such as the NEA Representative Assembly, AutoPay and Join Now Online Member Enrollment.
Provide input on product roadmaps and priorities to ensure member service applications and learning resources evolve with organizational needs.
Partner with NEA centers and affiliates to provide a standard set of Learning Tools and best practices for content creation related to member and affiliate engagement.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work effectively with colleagues across CIT and throughout NEA to align systems, policies, and learning resources.
Serve as a primary liaison between membership policy, governance, business units, and affiliates to ensure member service systems and learning resources meet organizational needs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify emerging needs, prioritize enhancements, and align technology with member engagement strategies.
Represent the Center for Innovation and Technology in organizational initiatives, committees, and working groups.
Resource & Budget Allocation
Manage budgets and allocate resources to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
Oversee hiring, training, and retention strategies for product development teams.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience managing within labor unions, professional associations or advocacy groups.
At least 3 years of progressive experience in application management, knowledge management, or learning management
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively and apply problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to align business policies within a supportable platform which support the union’s mission and goals.
Expertise with Salesforce CRM and Membership Systems that enhance communications and member engagement, recruitment and retention activities.
Ability to lead, mentor and develop high-performing staff, fostering growth and excellence across all levels and functions within a complex IT environment and business needs which support variety of applications and tools.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing landscapes and a commitment to continuous learning
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Strong project management skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical or policy concepts into clear, accessible language.
Proven track record of stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration.
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, education, organizational development, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
Ability to travel frequently (30-45 overnights per year).
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Hybrid work environment with minimum of two days in office at NEAHQ a week
Preferred:
Experience working with membership-based organizations, unions, or associations.
Knowledge of member services systems, CRM platforms, or learning management systems.
Familiarity with adult learning principles and digital learning strategies.
Experience with initiatives that promoted digital transformation and innovation to advance business objectives of an organization.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Samples of work products and accomplishments may be required at the interview. Washington, DC Headquarters based job requiring in-office work, minimal of 2 days a week. Must be able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends. Some travel is required (15-20 overnights per year).
