About the Role:
The Lead Building Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the operational integrity, safety, and efficiency of the Chicago History Museum, this position is responsible for overseeing and executing comprehensive maintenance programs that encompass electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The role requires proactive identification and resolution of maintenance issues to minimize downtime and support uninterrupted business operations. As a lead technician, this individual will coordinate with vendors, manage maintenance schedules, and mentor junior staff to uphold high standards of facility management. Ultimately, the position ensures that all building systems comply with regulatory standards and contribute to a safe, comfortable, and productive work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in building maintenance or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in building maintenance with demonstrated expertise in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Proven experience in a lead or supervisory role within a maintenance team.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards relevant to building maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Facilities Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Certifications such as HVAC, stationary, EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, OSHA Safety Certification, or HVAC Technician Certification.
- Experience working within professional, museum, technical, scientific, multiple climates, environments.
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Project management experience related to building upgrades or renovations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform routine and preventive maintenance on building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex system malfunctions and implement effective repair solutions promptly.
- Coordinate and supervise maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Manage relationships with external contractors and vendors to facilitate specialized repairs and maintenance services.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and equipment performance to support operational planning.
- Train and mentor junior maintenance staff, fostering skill development and adherence to best practices.
- Conduct regular inspections of building infrastructure to identify potential issues and recommend improvements.
- Ensure all maintenance activities align with environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Ability to work swing shifts, on call and or emergency situations.
