About the Department

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

  • Orders and receives parts, materials, supplies, tools and equipment.
     
  • Checks shipping invoices against quantities ordered and received.
     
  • Examines received goods to determine whether or not they meet the required standards.
     
  • Issues work order parts, materials, supplies, tools and equipment and updates inventory records.
     
  • Maintains perpetual inventory records and takes additional periodic inventories of all stock on hand.
     
  • Submits requisitions when stocked items are depleted or reach minimum levels depending on usage.
     
  • May personally pick up purchased parts or other materials needed on a rush basis.
     
  • Keeps storeroom neat and orderly.
     
  • Loads and unloads received goods.
     
  • Keeps records of vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance and servicing.
     
  • Keeps data file on each vehicle and/or heavy equipment.
     
  • Maintains continuous and periodic inventory.
     
  • May operate forklift or County vehicle to deliver and pick up supplies, equipment and other items as assigned.

Position Duties

PARTS SUPPLY CLERK I

Experience:
One (1) year of experience in maintaining automotive and/or heavy equipment part inventories, or receiving, storing, and issuing automotive and/or heavy equipment parts and supplies; or maintaining records on the maintenance, servicing, or inventory of a fleet of passenger or service vehicles.

License:
Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.


PARTS SUPPLY CLERK II

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience comparable to Parts Supply Clerk I in Merced County.

License:
Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.

Minimum Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

  • Orders, receives, stores, issues and maintains inventory of automotive and heavy equipment parts and supplies.
     
  • Establish and maintain accurate inventory records.
     
  • Keep storeroom neat and orderly.
     
  • Operate a personal computer and other modern office equipment.
     
  • Communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone.
     
  • Analyze data, interpret directions, procedures and regulations, and develop appropriate responses.

  • Operate a fork lift or County vehicle, as needed.
     
  • Frequent operation of data entry devices and repetitive hand and arm motion.
     
  • Conduct activities on uneven surfaces under various environmental conditions.
     
  • Occasionally work around dust, dirt, strong odors and noise.
     
  • Frequent use of depth perception, peripheral vision and color perception.
     
  • Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
     
  • Frequently reach, push, pull, twist and manipulate large and small objects.
     
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, twist, squat, climb, balance and crawl.
     
  • Frequent use of hand-eye-foot coordination.
     
  • Occasional risk of exposure to hazardous materials.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function.

Knowledge of: 
  • Methods and practices used in ordering, receiving, storing and issuing work orders.
     
  • Methods and practices in maintaining inventory of automotive and heavy equipment parts and supplies.
     
  • Methods of maintaining inventory records and taking inventories.
     
  • Basic math operations.

Ability to: 
  • Establish and maintain accurate inventory records.
     
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
     
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
     
  • Receive shipments, inspecting items for proper quality and quantity.
     
  • Organize warehouse items in a neat and orderly manner.
     
  • Read and write at a level required for successful job performance.
