Studio Manager
Location: Daily Mail (New York)
Position: Full Time/Permanent - this is a 100% in-person role, requiring five days a week in-office.
About the role
The Studio Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of Daily Mail’s New York studios and video equipment, overseeing the technical logistics of newsroom studio productions while collaborating with journalists, podcasters, and video producers to refine and standardize the visual aesthetic of the company’s video content. This role supports all audio/visual projects happening in the office, including livestreaming and AV support, as both studio manager and production specialist.
This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management, and creative problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be proactive, with a strong understanding of studio operations, video production, and camera/audio equipment.
Collaboration and good communication are a must. This role works closely with both video professionals and newsroom staff to translate editorial ideas into engaging content through a high level of technical understanding and execution in the studio as well as in the field at times.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the production studios, staff, and all associated equipment; create and fulfil bookings; oversee equipment maintenance, upgrades, and purchases as needed.
- Coordinate productions with in-house content teams, from long-form YouTube videos to podcasts and social clips. Work with producers, reporters, and editors to determine equipment needs and execute multiple recordings on a daily basis, ensuring optimal resource allocation and execution under tight deadlines.
- Facilitate live news hits and streaming events as needed.
- Provide audio support for all productions, especially podcast and audio-first formats.
- Function as lead videographer for in-studio productions.
- Work with stakeholders to understand production needs and handle the camera, lighting, audio elements of the shoot as needed.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to studio and remote equipment, implementing effective solutions promptly.
- Provide equipment training and technical support to Daily Mail staff, and to freelance video crew to support studio productions.
- Establish and uphold best practices for video production, adjusting workflows as necessary to enhance efficiency.
- Maintain up-to-date style and technical guidelines to ensure consistency in production quality. Help shape and refine the visual efforts of Daily Mail’s video content.
Person Specification
- Proven experience in cinematography, video and podcast production, and studio management within a news or media organization.
- Hands-on experience with multi-camera studio and remote production.
- Proficiency with Sony cameras and Adobe Creative Cloud software.
- Strong understanding of visual aesthetics and storytelling within a journalistic framework.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement practical solutions in high pressure environments.
- Experience in training and managing freelance video personnel
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to work across departments to achieve creative goals.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 Base salary, depending on experience
