As Rhino Foods’ Safety Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, visitors, and customers. In this role, you will lead and support safety programs, initiatives, and performance tracking. You will use your leadership and communication skills to ensure the changes you seek to implement are effectively adopted throughout the organization. Safety at Rhino Foods always comes first; you will apply your technical expertise and skills to enhance processes, procedures, and programs to maintain the maximum level of safety in all Rhino Foods locations.


What you’ll accomplish:

  • Lead and continuously enhance Rhino’s safety programs; design, implement, and maintain safety policies, systems, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, VOSHA, NFPA, and other applicable standards.
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks through regular inspections, hazard assessments, and facility audits; track corrective actions to completion and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes, develop preventive measures, and reduce recurrence and workers’ compensation incidents.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct training on emergency response, ergonomics, hazard communication, PPE, and other key safety topics for all employees.
  • Maintain required records and documentation, including OSHA 300 logs, inspection reports, and safety training records.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments to integrate safety into daily processes and foster accountability at all levels.
  • Facilitate Safety Committee meetings to promote awareness, address concerns, and empower employees to actively engage in creating a safe work environment.
  • Manage safety-related resources, including purchasing and inventory of PPE, first aid materials, and other safety supplies.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills, fire safety programs, and annual hearing testing.
  • Ensure contractor and visitor compliance with company safety policies while on-site.
  • Monitor trends, regulations, and emerging best practices to recommend and implement innovative safety solutions that strengthen Rhino’s culture of prevention.
  • Support work-restricted employees by collaborating with relevant departments to maintain safe and compliant modified duty programs.
  • Participate in culture and engagement initiatives, promoting wellness, teamwork, and Rhino’s guiding philosophy of “Do Right.” 

Requirements

What you’ll need to succeed: 

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience coordinating or managing workplace safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting. 
  • Demonstrated experience with OSHA/VOSHA compliance, accident investigation, and safety training development.
  • Proven ability to lead change through collaboration, influence, and communication.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate safety data, identify trends, and develop solutions.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to present safety information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities and managing projects to completion.
  • Collaborative team player who models Rhino’s values and fosters trust and respect.

Other: 

  • Complete and maintain up-to-date certifications and training as required, including safety protocols, chemical handling, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). 
  • May perform a variety of tasks which directly contribute to Rhino Foods but may not directly relate to the primary duties and responsibilities of the job. 
  • Flexibility is essential in Rhino’s ability to respond to short-term demands and ensure smooth operations during busy times. You may be required to work outside normal business hours, nights, weekends, or at another Rhino location in order to meet business needs. 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

The position works in both an office and production setting, typically involving working in a climate-controlled environment and exposure to variable temperatures including heat and cold. Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing/pulling; contact with frozen food items, water, detergents, sanitizers, and allergens such as peanuts; machinery noise. Requires repetitive motions and lifting up to 25 lbs. Physical demands for an office setting position may include: sitting at a desk or computer workstation for extended periods; using a computer, phone, or other office equipment for extended periods; occasionally standing or walking to retrieve items or move around the office; lifting and carrying light objects such as files or papers, typically under 10 pounds; occasionally bending, stooping, or reaching for items or files. Compliance with OSHA and industry standards includes wearing required PPE such as steel-toe production boots, nitrile gloves, face protection, hearing protection, and hair and beard nets. All jewelry and adornments on the hands, wrists, and above the neck must be removable and off while in production areas.
