Position Summary:

The Delivery Center Manager reports to the Area Director, and manages the liquid product routing and dispatch function for multiple markets to provide timely and efficient product delivery to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. This position oversees several dispatchers and routing specialists, provides leadership in support of the Dead River Company Brand Promise, Customer Guarantees and Pledges, and Co-worker Guarantees and Pledges.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the routing and dispatch function which includes liquid product dispatchers and routing specialists. Utilizing the Raven dispatch system, deliveries are efficiently routed to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Holds employees accountable for building customer relationships, adhering to department standards, supporting annual customer growth and retention goals, and safety.
  • Resolves customer complaints or problems relating to the dispatch and delivery of petroleum products.
  • Runs effective team meetings (Huddles).
  • Regularly coaches team members utilizing both team and individual metrics to drive performance.
  • Evaluates and discusses performance with employees utilizing the Performance Scorecard. 
  • Collaborates with the Credit Department relating to customer credit issues.
  • Trains and develops direct reports to make certain technology is being utilized in the most effective manner.
  • Has extensive knowledge of all forecasting methods and ensures that methods are applied as appropriate for different account types.
  • Assists drivers who encounter delivery problems or emergencies. 
  • Executes administrative tasks in support of the Area or Market Manager.

Other Tasks:

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Education:

A Bachelors degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years of previous management experience is required. Previous experience with dispatch/distribution/logistics is strongly preferred. Experience related to energy products is preferred.

Contacts:

On a daily basis the Delivery Center Manager is in contact with customers, drivers, and other office staff. This position works closely with Delivery Driver Managers, Market Managers and the Area Manager.

Equipment/Software Used:

Computer and other basic office equipment are utilized. The position routinely uses Microsoft Office, the ADDS E3 system, and the Raven dispatch system.

Decisions Made:

The Delivery Center Manager makes decisions regarding hiring, performance, dispatching issues and whether to make deliveries based on safety issues and weather concerns. Most other decisions are made in consultation with the Market Manager or Area Manager. Safety Considerations: Safety considerations relate to the safe delivery of petroleum products. Any accident, spills, overfills, or wrong deliveries are promptly reported and an investigation completed.

Work Environment:

The majority of time is spent in a fast-paced office environment.

Physical Requirements Analysis:

  • The position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
  • There is frequent use of the hands/arms to reach, feel, handle, or use a computer
  • There is frequent communication involving both talking and listening over the telephone or radio and in person
