Job Description

The Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a nine-month, continuing, non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor position, with an anticipated start date of August 2026. This state-funded position is part of our commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s instructional mission by teaching undergraduate courses in Psychology, with an emphasis on Behavior Analysis and Clinical Psychology. Responsibilities include teaching both large and small class sections; developing course syllabi, assignments, and examinations; maintaining an active and accessible presence on the learning management system (e.g., Canvas); supervising and mentoring undergraduate teaching assistants; holding regular office hours; and participating in service at the Department, College, University, and/or community levels. Additional duties may be assigned by the Department Chair as needed.

The teaching load is eight courses per academic year (4-4), with opportunities to teach during winter and summer sessions for additional compensation. Graduate teaching assistant support is available for larger courses. The University provides a clear promotion pathway for teaching faculty that includes regular review, and base salary increases upon promotion.

Lecturer Statement

The University of Nevada, Reno reserves the right to hire at any level of Lecturer (I-II) or Teaching Assistant/Teaching Associate Professor (terminal degree candidates) that is appropriate for the hire.  If you have questions about title, please inquire during the interview process.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Psychology, Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology, or related area. Applicants who are ABD will be considered; however, the PhD must be conferred by the start date.

  • At least one (1) year of teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

  • Ability to teach at least two (2) courses in each of the following content areas:

    • Behavior Analysis: Elementary Analysis of Behavior, Applied Behavior Analysis, Research Methods in Behavior Analysis, Ethics in Behavior Analysis, Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Radical Behaviorism, or Principles of Psychological Assessment.

    • Clinical Psychology: Abnormal Psychology, Personality, Mindfulness in Psychology, Childhood Behavior Disorders, Basic Principles of Psychotherapy, Psychology of Trauma, Health Psychology, or any other undergraduate course relevant to Clinical Psychology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate psychology courses, including both introductory and advanced offerings in the areas of Behavior Analysis and Clinical Psychology.

  • BCBA or BCBA-D certification (Board Certified Behavior Analyst or Doctoral-level certification).

  • Experience in developing and delivering online courses using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).

  • Interest in undergraduate-level curriculum development.

Compensation Grade:

Teaching Assistant Professor (Salary range: $62,934-$96,855)

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
