GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary contact for local existing manufacturing industries and coordinates project management activities as assigned by the OCDED Director/OEA President. General responsibilities include coordinating and implementing projects and programs that support commercial, office and industrial development; business attraction; business retention; and other economic development, redevelopment or capital improvement programs or projects.

· Serves as OEA’s primary contact for existing industry, maintains communications with existing industry regarding relevant news and events, and assists them with any issues.

a. Maintains existing industry contacts, visits, and data in office CRM system.

b. Manages the OEA’s Business, Retention, and Expansion (BRE) Program, which includes visits to various companies throughout the  year to assess their needs and offer support.

c. Manages the Oconee Manufacturer’s Association, a consortium of local industry managers that meets regularly to discuss and address issues of importance and need.

· Performs economic development support work to broaden the county’s industrial base.

· Develops and builds relationships with prospects, consultants, local businesses, and economic development partners and allies.

· Provides relevant research needed for the recruitment and expansion of businesses.

· Under the direction of the OCDED Director/OEA President, assists with the timely completion and submission of Requests for Information (RFI) received from prospective industrial clients, the South Carolina Department of Commerce, The Upstate SC Alliance, and other entities.

· Assists the OCDED Director/OEA President by using existing databases to research existing and prospective businesses for the purposes of business attraction and expansion, and industry retention efforts, and lead generation.

· Manages existing industry events, organizations, and ombudsman services sponsored, administered, and/or utilized by OEA.

· Assists the OCDED Director/OEA President in the development and implementation of short- and long-range economic development plans and annual budgets.

· Assists the OCDED Director/OEA President in the development and implementation of OEA’s marketing plan and the preparation of marketing materials.

· Assists the OCDED Director/OEA President and Marketing Manager in creating and maintaining the OEA’s social media platforms and editorial calendar.

· Assists OEA’s social media platforms by providing content and sharing relevant and informative economic development news.

· Assists OEA’s marketing efforts through various public and media contacts, including OEA’s website and ensuring that current and pertinent information is available to the public via various mediums.

· Performs key research needed for economic development projects, including preparing and analyzing demographic data, sourcing and summarizing relevant news items from a variety of sources (local industry, economic development partners, etc.), and assisting the organization with the development and securing of photography/videos for presentations, reports, and marketing materials.

· Maintains up-to-date data for the office, prospects, website, and other promotional materials, and keeps the Marketing Manager informed when updates are needed. Includes ongoing education and professional development workshops to stay on top of current trends and developments with research tools and processes.

· Performs any other tasks as needed to comply with the implementation of the OEA’s activities.

· Maintains ongoing communications with local employers who have job openings to keep them apprised of any progress made in meeting their needs, while working with other partners to help meet the needs of workforce development efforts.

· Advocates and collaborates for workforce development initiatives with local partners including but not limited to: SDOC, HCTC, TCTC, and AOP Showcase.

· Serves on the AOP Showcase Board as the primary OEA representative and assists in the planning and execution of this annual event.

· Assists Tri-County Entrepreneurial Chairman with essential duties pertaining to small business startup and incubation.

· Maintains and updates OEA property listings on OEA website, LocateSC, SC PowerTeam, and Fast Facility.

· Serves as a member of various committees as assigned, which may be internal or external audiences.

· Attends professional development workshops and conferences to keep abreast of trends and developments in all phases of Marketing and Economic Development.

· Works alongside the OEA President to assist with economic development projects and evaluation of projects utilizing cost/benefit analysis, fiscal and economic impact, and relevant multiplier factors.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Must be computer literate.

Ability to communicate effectively through all mediums, i.e., phone, written, face-to-face.

Above average customer service skills.

Ability to work individually or in teams.

Considerable knowledge of marketing principles, communications, sales and economic development.

Working knowledge of municipal/county zoning and infrastructure.

Working knowledge of planning programs and processes. 

Skilled in the operation of the listed tools and equipment. 

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with industrialists, architects, contractors, developers, property and business owners, supervisors, employees and the general public.

Ability to establish effective working relationships.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Political Science, Real Estate, Communications or a related field, and three (3) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 

This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, and/or odors.
