Duties, Responsibilities & Other:KCI’s Ecological Restoration and Resilience practice is seeking an Engineer-in-Training to support our Ecological Restoration group located in our headquarters in Sparks, MD. Our Water Resources team of engineers and scientists works in a variety of environmental, natural resource, and water resources subject areas for private clients and state and local governments in the mid-Atlantic region.
The Engineer-in-Training responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist or lead geomorphological assessments including non-datum survey; photo documentation; and sediment sampling.
- Build 3D surfaces in MicroStation or AutoCAD Civil3D to accurately represent existing and proposed surfaces.
- Support development of conceptual designs and reports articulating alternatives and reflecting them via ArcGIS or MicroStation.
- Support development of detailed engineering stream restoration designs including plans, reports, specifications, engineer’s estimate.
- Estimate credits based on the Bay Protocols for Urban Stream Restoration.
- Support estimates of functional feet and buffer credits using the Maryland Stream Mitigation Framework.
- Assist in determining design discharge.
- Support Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling.
- Overseeing construction and post construction performance monitoring with associated asbuilt and monitoring report development.

Education and/or Skills Required:
• 0-2 Years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-Accredited Program
• General knowledge of required design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Good communication and technical writing skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
• Previous internships or work experience in the Engineering field.
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to maintain required certifications
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Preferred:
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
