The Lead Dance Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety, development, and enjoyment of all children and participants under their care in YMCA programs. This role is centered on building genuine connections with participants, teaching new skills, and fostering confidence and fun in a supportive environment. The Lead Dance Instructor exemplifies the YMCA mission of strengthening healthy minds, bodies, and spirits through quality instruction and positive mentorship.
Hours:
Tuesdays 4:30pm - 6:45PM

Age Range: Toddlers to Young School Aged Children (5/6)
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans or ensure familiarity with YMCA program lesson plans.
- Instruct dance skills in a logical, progressive, and age-appropriate manner; adapt instruction as needed to meet the needs of participants.
- Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and self-expression through dance.
- Interact with children in a positive, supportive way that promotes growth and confidence.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and YMCA staff, fostering trust and collaboration.
- Serve as a role model for participants, promoting the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during classes and related program activities.
- Assist in evaluating program success and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Strong background in dance with the ability to teach multiple styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, acro, or others as offered).
- Prior experience teaching or leading youth dance, fitness, or recreational programs preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Enthusiasm for working with youth in a community-based environment and commitment to the YMCA’s mission and values.
