Job Description

Position Summary

As a Senior Business Analyst – Merchandise & Inventory Analytics, you will play a critical role in driving data-informed decisions across our merchandising and inventory operations. You’ll partner closely with category managers, assortment and inventory planners, as well as supply chain and data science teams to deliver actionable insights through advanced analytics and dynamic PowerBI reporting. Your work will directly influence assortment strategies, inventory depth decisions, and operational efficiency across our 4,000+ stores and distribution centers.

This position is 4 days in office, 1 day remote per week, based at our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina (North Hills) 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Analytics & Planning

  • Support strategic initiatives like the Assortment Planning Engine (APE) and Inventory Control Tower by translating business needs into analytical requirements and reporting solutions.
  • Conduct scenario modeling to evaluate the impact of changes in assortment, stocking strategies, vendor performance, and supply chain configurations.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis to identify key drivers of forecast error, sales performance, and inventory efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for growth, cost savings, and operational improvements.
  • Analyze SKU-level performance across stores, hubs, and DCs to support assortment planning and inventory optimization.
  • Deliver insights on financial risks and opportunities across product lines, vendors, and regions.

Power BI Development & Reporting

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable Power BI dashboards that provide visibility into merchandising and inventory KPIs.
  • Develop intuitive visualizations that support decision-making across assortment planning, inventory management, and vendor performance.
  • Integrate data from Snowflake and other sources to create unified reporting views for stakeholders across merchandising, supply chain, and finance.
  • Implement row-level security, dynamic filtering, and drill-through capabilities to enhance usability and data governance.
  • Collaborate with business users to gather requirements, iterate on report design, and ensure alignment with operational goals.
  • Monitor and optimize Power BI performance, including data refresh schedules, query efficiency, and report load times.
  • Provide training and documentation to empower business users to self-serve insights and explore data independently.
  • Stay current with Power BI feature releases and recommend enhancements to improve reporting capabilities and user experience.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Finance, Supply Chain, Statistics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: 4–6 years in business analytics, merchandising, or inventory planning; retail experience strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in PowerBI, Excel, and SQL.
    • Proficiency in PowerPoint
    • Experience working with Snowflake, AWS, Oracle or other similar data warehouse platforms.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Strong ability to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into actionable business strategies.
    • Understanding of forecasting, and variance analysis.
    • Skilled in identifying key performance drivers and building diagnostic frameworks to uncover root causes of performance issues.
    • Proficient in developing and validating KPIs that align with merchandising and inventory objectives.
    • Comfortable working with large, multi-source datasets and applying statistical techniques to derive insights.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Comfortable presenting insights to senior leadership and driving alignment across teams.
