Applicants who are selected for an interview will be invited to submit two letters of recommendation.The Wertheim Laboratory in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) is seeking interested MD, MBBS, or PhD graduates for a post-doctoral research fellowship.
We study pulmonary vascular diseases of high unmet clinical need, including pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism. A thematic area of interest includes the relationship between endothelial cell dysfunction, vascular inflammation, and extracellular matrix biology in pulmonary arterial hypertension and connective tissue diseases. We apply a systems biology framework, often using networks and other in silico approaches to derive novel biological predictions—and then we aim to test these predictions using a range of experimental techniques in vitro and in vivo.

Expectations:
- Design and conduct experiments in collaboration with the PI
- Document experimental goals, methods, and results in an electronic laboratory notebook
- Independently perform mammalian tissue culture, overexpression/knockdown, histology, protein isolation and characterization experiments on biological samples
- Be professional, curious, and open-minded
- Read independently to study relevant biology and methods
- Participate in regular laboratory and mentorship meetings
- Utilize Prism or programming languages such as R for data analysis and visualization.
Advantages of the fellowship will include close mentorship by PI, diversity of experimental approaches (vitro, vivo, silico), training in systems biology and network medicine, laboratory technician support, experience in both pulmonary and cardiovascular pathophysiology, and the rich scientific environment of BWH/HMS. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in our thematic areas of interest, protein biochemistry, and/or invasive hemodynamic analysis.
Aims for the fellowship will include at least one first author publication, presentation and national/international conference, and networking with other figures in the field.
