About the Department
Join the City of Hampton as a Civil Engineering Technician! Are you passionate about engineering and public infrastructure? The Public Works Department is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented professional to provide advanced technical and engineering support to our team of engineers. In this role, you will work under general supervision, independently developing and reviewing work packages, engineering plans, and data analysis to support complex projects that impact our community.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field of study.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field of study preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
- Some experience with Microsoft Office software. Multiple software packages are used to complete the work requirements; incumbent must be comfortable mastering them in order to perform the required duties.
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
- Requires some duties to be performed outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
