Position Overview
Are you passionate about ensuring innovative research and technology is applied responsibly?
As a Senior Advisor for Responsible Health Research Innovations working within the Division of International Affairs at ARPA-H, you will play a pivotal role on the Ripple Effect support team! Your work will directly ensure biomedical health innovations adhere to existing and developing laws, regulations, and policies to responsibly drive health outcomes for all. You will conduct audits of health research projects and programs, create strategies for responsible innovation, and monitor changes in biomedical regulatory landscape.
Responsibilities
While not an exhaustive list, the key duties for the position include:
- Support the design and establishment of responsible innovation strategies within ARPA-H research programs and projects to drive health outcomes
- Facilitate engagement across ARPA-H offices on a diversity of ethical, legal, and social issues coupled to health innovation, and provide research support on technical, policy, social science and other areas
- Provide subject matter expertise in one more domain of responsible innovation in health (e.g. clinical bioethics, governance of frontier technologies, privacy and data rights) and serve as a liaison to connect ARPA-H staff with other leading experts
- Support agency responses to policy implementation related to responsible innovation in biomedical research and discovery
- Support the design of mechanisms to facilitate responsible innovation implementation within programs, such as through contracting and agreements
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in science or relevant fields.
- 10+ years' relevant experience advising and developing responsible innovation approaches in R&D environments, with
- 4+ years of project management experience, and
- 2+ years of supervisory experience.
- 10+ years of expertise in one or more domains of responsible innovation in health and biomedicine (e.g. clinical bioethics, governance of frontier technologies, privacy and data rights, liability, etc.) is required.
Basic Requirements
- Advanced experience with biomedical regulatory compliance, policies, and regulations in areas including compliance checklists, policy interpretation, policy implementation & monitoring, and compliance training development, particularly regarding innovative health solutions.
- Experience with government research and development and science and technology environments , as well as effective management of short- and long-term project activities, ensuring timely and accurate task completion and approval of project deliverables.
- Ability to read and understand technical approaches to product development (science, engineering, OR product strategy expertise)
- Facilitates cross-functional communication on research innovation matters, authors strategic communications, and ensures alignment of messaging across teams and stakeholders through collaboration.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office productivity software and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
Skills That Set You Apart
- Certification: relevant certifications relating to one or more area of subject matter expertise (e.g. clinical bioethics, governance of frontier technologies, privacy and data rights)
- Advanced experience conducting project reviews to implement lessons learned, sharing complex knowledge, fostering team collaboration, and recommending strategies for effective health outcomes from responsible innovations.
- Intermediate experience with AI tools, including their limitations and risks, and how they can be applied to support regulatory and compliance activities.
