POSITION SUMMARY

On a daily basis directs and coordinates all activities pertaining to the Bloom Beyond Gardens Greenhouse and/or landscaping opportunities in the community by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The cultivation of plants in a controlled environment is the domain of a greenhouse coordinator, who may grow vegetables and herbs, ornamental plants, or rare flowers from seeds or cuttings to be used for wholesale or commercial use.
  • Supervise plant-breeding and cross-hybridization, plant nutrition and protection, pest and disease control, harvesting, and the maintenance of systems controlling the greenhouse environment, such as HVAC and irrigation.
  • Oversee volunteers and train staff, control inventory of seeds, produce and plants, create progress reports, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate various projects or activities.
  • Ensure all assigned equipment are maintained and operational.
  • Manage and direct production and logistic activities of the greenhouse operation.
  • Oversee execution of daily activities to ensure productivity and quality standards meet expectations.
  • Purchase materials and supplies as needed.
  • Operate material-moving equipment for transfer of products in a safe and timely manner.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Perform ongoing inventory of raw materials and/or finished goods.
  • Oversee the operation of the POS system and train employees to operate independently.
  • Communicate as need with the manager related to overall program problems, personnel concerns, or issues.
  • Accept other assignments, as needed, to maintain continuity of program or meet customers’ needs.
  • Production grower experience within the last 5 years

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's Degree in a related field from an accredited college plus three years of experience or an equivalent of education or experience to equal 5 years.
  • This position requires expertise in horticulture, plant cultivation, pest and disease control, and greenhouse technology, with a combination of responsibilities such as team leadership, resource management, and operational oversight.
  • Must be passionate and engaged in the development of the greenhouse and community partnerships to support it.
  • Must provide proof of valid driver’s license and valid personal vehicle insurance.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to operate a computer.

  • People working in the greenhouse must be able to work in varying seasonal temperatures and able to lift and stand for varying periods/amounts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Some on-the-job training and/or work simulated situations may require the employee to lift up to 30 pounds.
