Position Summary

A clinical competent registered professional nurse who delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Supervises, delegates and coordinates the patient care provided throughout the health system. Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others, and health care team members while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. Meets all standards and requirements of LMHS universal job description. Works directly under the supervision of the Emergency Department Nursing Director.

Responsibilities

    • Conducts nursing review of any new proposed medications, procedures, or therapy plans for use in the outpatient clinic. Nursing review will consider appropriateness of required monitoring capabilities, required skill level and certification of nursing staff, as well as required length of appointment/scheduling restraints.
    • Reviews therapy plans in conjunction with pharmacy staff for appropriateness in relationship to dosing, length of appointment, and other monitoring parameters such as frequency of vital signs.
    • Works as a liaison between the Outpatient Clinic, the Emergency Department, Inpatient Staff, and Offices to ensure that required orders/therapy plans are utilized appropriately and that patient scheduling processes are followed. Works to educate other department staff when necessary.
    • Check Outlook email, EPIC In Basket Messages/Chat and vocera messages, respond as appropriate.
    • Handle concurrent patient complaints, concerns, and issues
    • Directly report to Director/Manager any employee performance/behavior issues
    • Attends regular meetings with Compliance, Billing/Coding, and Registration to review any opportunities for improvement of revenue capture or to eliminate missed opportunities for capturing revenue.
    • Responsible for reconciliation of patient scheduling utilizing the SnapBoard as needed if there are scheduling conflicts.
    • Reviews charts for complete documentation so support diagnosis and appropriate treatment justification.
    • Provides follow-up with nursing staff or providers when additional documentation is required for orders or treatment in attaining reimbursement.
    • Responsible for Outpatient Clinic Employee Schedule.
    • Trains new staff and staff who are cross trained to the OPC.
    • In charge of quality assurance items (i.e., temperature logs, White Glove, and point of care testing logs and controls), patient throughput.
    • Other tasks as delegated by management within scope of practice.
    • Ensure all staff adheres to personal appearance policy.
    • Ensure that medications and sharps are secured in appropriate locations.
    • Review new policies and procedures.

            Requirements

            • Attend in-service as required.
            • Complete Web-Ed assignments and other educational requirements annually.
            • BLS recertification every quarter utilizing RQI
            • ALS recertification every quarter utilizing RQI
            • PALS recertification every quarter utilizing RQI
            • Active Nurse License
            • Read, write, and follow verbal or written instructions.
            • Outpatient Clinic experience needed 
            • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
