This is a primarily remote position with occasional in-person meetings at our office or with clients. Candidates should be located within a commutable distance to Austin, San Antonio, or Houston, as periodic onsite presence may be required.


What you will do


We are seeking an experienced federal grants specialist to lead a small team of accountants in managing federal grants and related financial activities. This is a newly created position in our Consulting practice leading a long-term project. The ideal candidate will possess a background in accounting or audit. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant grant accounting and managing grant-related projects.

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant applications and expense reimbursement packages.
  • Ensure compliance with federal grant regulations and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate and support single audit processes.
  • Collaborate with state agencies and internal departments to manage grant-related activities.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Review and approval of requisitions to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Assist in establishing departmental deadlines and a tracking system to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Prepares documentation of grant expenses, including invoices, check requests, and payroll records.
  • Prepare grant-related journal entries, including grant revenue and indirect expense allocations.
  • As part of our compliance program, all team members are required to follow industry leading data and system security practices.

Qualifications


What you will need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
  • CPA license preferred; PMP certification accepted in lieu of a CPA, but one of these is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following:
      • Working with grants in a state agency
      • Conducting single audits
      • Preparing grants and expense reimbursement packages
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal grants regulations, including 2 CFR Part 200, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of contract and grant procedures and ability to apply principles, concepts and theories.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting systems and the impact on reporting, billing, and recovering costs.
  • Supervisory experience managing a team of accountants is required.
  • Strong analytical, technical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to administer grant compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
