POSITION SUMMARY
The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is a direct-entry academic program that provides a comprehensive support system to students who show great potential for college success but, for a variety of reasons, may not have had the same academic opportunities or financial resources as other applicants. Funded in partnership with the New York State Education Department (NYSED), HEOP provides holistic academic, financial, personal/social, and post-graduate planning support to a cohort of eligible participants.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, serving as an academic advisor for a cohort of HEOP students, as well as supporting the academic, social, personal, and professional development of our students through intentional programming and mentorship. Additionally, this candidate will support departmental efforts to recruit, enroll, and prepare HEOP students for collegiate success.
This position is funded by external sources and is contingent on the continued receival of those funds.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Provide support as an academic advisor to a cohort of HEOP students
Organize academic and social programs for students including, workshops, events, and activities
Oversee a number of program initiatives that are designed to improve student outcomes and support (i.e. peer-peer tutoring, academic incentive program, scholar recognition, etc.)
Assist in the coordination of the HEOP Summer Academic Institute (SAI)
Co-teach a 1 credit, advisement seminar to students during the HEOP Summer Academic Institute
Maintain the HEOP website, Canvas page, and coordinate student mailing and social media promotion.
Maintain program rosters and student files.
Liaise with faculty, staff, and administrators with respect to HEOP students’ academic and personal needs
Represent the HEOP programs at both on and off-campus recruiting and orientation events, as needed
Liaise with campus partners to identify, prepare, and support students in their post-graduate planning.
Assist with data collection and program assessment
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of HEOP

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field required
Experience working with students in a college setting who are from diverse backgrounds, including students who need additional academic support and come from economically underserved communities
Experience creating and implementing high-impact programs for college students, preferably in opportunity programs
Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
Experience advising college students to promote academic success
Ability to work well in one-on-one, small groups, and in a classroom setting
Comfortable with technology and using different software programs
Ability to interact and work effectively with all members of the Le Moyne College community
Valid driver’s license preferred
Ability to lift 25-30 pounds to transport recruitment, presentation, orientation and programming materials preferred
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Some travel may be required, overnight stays may be a possibility
