Job Description:

Under general supervision, modifies, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots electrical and electronic control systems in a utility operation; builds spreadsheets, maintains database and logs functions of utility operations; and produces and updates utility system drawings using CAD programming and instrumentation systems in a utility operation.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements: 

Utility Electrical and Instrumentation Technician I: 

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Journey-level electrician with four years of experience in utility systems, industrial plant, process plant or power plant with electric motor controls and station power systems including at least two years experience in electrical, electronic and/or pneumatic control systems; or
  • Graduation from a two-year electrical or instrumentation and control program.

Utility Electrical and Instrumentation Technician II:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Journey level electrician with six years of experience in utility systems, industrial plant, process plant or power plant with electric motor controls and station power systems.  Experience must include at least two years working with electric motor controls, station power systems, electrical, electronic and/or pneumatic control systems and at least one year of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and water and gas analyzers, or
  • An AAS or BS degree in electronics or instrumentation and control systems, with two years of experience in utility systems, industrial plant, process plant or power plant.  Experience must include at least two years experience with electric motor controls, station power systems, and/or electrical, electronic and pneumatic control systems and at least one year of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and water and gas analyzers.

Utility Electrical and Instrumentation Technician III:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Journey level electrician with six years of experience in utility systems, industrial plant, process plant or power plant.  Experience must include at least four years with electric motor controls, station power systems, and/or electrical, electronic and pneumatic control systems and at least two years of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), water and gas analyzers, distributed control systems, CAD systems and the use of databases and management tools associated with databases; or
  • An AAS or BS degree in electronics or instrumentation and control systems, with four years of experience in utility systems, industrial plant, process plant or power plant.  Experience must include at least four years with electric motor controls, station power systems, and/or electrical, electronic and pneumatic control systems and at least two years of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), water and gas analyzers, distributed control systems, CAD systems and the use of databases and management tools associated with databases.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Pay Grade: UEIT I: 13/6; UEIT II: 15/6; UEIT III: 17/6
Starting Hourly Wage: UEIT I: $29.09; UEIT II: $31.74; UEIT III: $34.67 (potential for higher starting wage based on qualifications.)
