Position Overview

The Account Manager, Middle Market is responsible for managing and servicing a portfolio of middle market sized Commercial Lines of insurance accounts.   This role involves providing excellent customer service, handling policy renewals, endorsements, and claims assistance, and ensuring coverage meets client needs. In addition, the Account Manager, Middle Market contributes to client retention and satisfaction through proactive communication and policy reviews and assists in growing the book of business through service and working with internal sales team to effectively provide solutions to meet and exceed client needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Informs and educates clients about policy coverage, changes, exclusion, and insurance coverage needs.
  • Provides technical support to producer(s) to benefit clients and to reach agency’s strategic business goals.
  • Prepares proposals and completes application in coordination with producer(s) on assigned Tier A accounts and by themselves for Tier B.
  • Submits applications to eligible and appropriate carriers; obtains client signatures on applications; follows up to ensure timely receipt of quotations and policies.
  • Produces the following for assigned clients:  binders, certificates, policies, endorsements, and other related items; verifies their accuracy.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Placement and Carrier Relations, handles the remarketing of renewals, contacts clients, creates renewal proposals, and handles other renewal activities in coordination with the producer on Tier A accounts, and by self on Tier B.
  • Renews policies following agency standards; verifies each renewal’s accuracy; ensures that all renewals are produced.
  • Reviews audits of policies; verifies accuracy and facilitates corrections, as needed, between client and carrier.
  • Assists in designing of, or independently designs, insurance plans for clients as assigned and directed by the agency management.
  • Continues on-going education to maintain knowledge of insurance coverages and exposures in available markets.
  • Maintains current knowledge of underwriting guidelines, rating systems and processing requirements.
  • Pre-qualifies referral business (from assigned current clients) and gives to appropriate person to handle quoting.
  • Assists clients with making coverage changes in an automated environment supported by transactional filing; works with accounting to handle billing and make sure invoices are timely and accurate; uses each contact with the client as an opportunity to review the whole account and rounds out where needed.
  • Determines reasons for requests for cancellations; acts to save accounts; notifies producer(s) according to agency standards.
  • Actively solicits increases in coverage and rounds out accounts through sales to clients; leaves good documentation of all contacts.
  • Refers current and prospective clients to Life Department and to Personal Lines for solicitation of those lines of business; assists in profiling the commercial book of business for marketing purposes.
  • Prepares summaries of insurance, schedules, and proposals as needed for account review.
  • Verifies policy and change information, facilitating corrections when necessary.
  • Processes and follows up on cancellation request to carriers to ensure accurate and timely resolution.
  • Assists clients in submitting first reports of claims, obtaining adjustors or visits from agency staff; facilitates prompt response from carrier staff and follows up on claims status to keep insureds informed and to work towards settlement of claims; uses each claim contact as an occasion to review coverage and market as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to clients, customers, employees, carriers, or as appropriate, other information. 
  • Ensures documents are accurate and complete, minimizing the risk of errors or omissions that could lead to disputes or financial loss.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment, which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the company's compliance with all regulatory requirements; ensures that all office personnel adhere to the same. Manages risk by completing all mandatory compliance and regulatory training assigned by the stated due date.
  • Plays an active role in protecting the organization and its customers against fraud by incorporating risk awareness and prevention into daily responsibilities. 

Education & Qualifications

  • A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field strongly preferred. 
  • A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in a related position normally required.
  • Valid Insurance License for assigned state required (or must be obtained within 60 days of start date).
  • Completion of CISR or CIC designation preferred.
  • Experience using Applied Epic or similar client relationship management system strongly preferred.

Skill(s)

Thorough knowledge of agency operations, including claims handling, procedures, carrier rating, agency management systems and applicable insurance laws/codes; knowledge of all lines of insurance with an emphasis on commercial lines of insurance; knowledge of insurance rating and underwriting procedures; excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with agency management systems; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver’s license is required.

Pay Transparency

We set standard salary ranges for our roles based on the position, function, and responsibilities, as benchmarked against similarly sized companies in our industry. Specific compensation offered will be determined based on a combination of factors including the candidate’s knowledge, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials. The salary range may vary based on geographic location.
