Position Overview

The Legal and Compliance Extern will work closely with the Bank’s in-house Legal Department and gain valuable exposure to the legal and compliance issues affecting financial institutions. This externship is ideal for law students interested in corporate, regulatory, or financial services law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research on topics including banking law, consumer protection, real estate, and corporate governance.

  • Review and revise contracts, agreements, policies, and affidavits.

  • Support compliance reviews and risk assessments.

  • Attend internal meetings with legal, compliance, and business teams.

  • Observe and assist with legal counsel functions related to governance, risk, and executive decision-making.

  • Collaborate, as appropriate, with the Bank’s Compliance and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current law student with strong research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated interest in corporate, regulatory, or financial services law.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively with legal and non-legal stakeholders.

  • Professionalism, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach.

  • Prior coursework in Business Organizations, Contracts, or Administrative Law is preferred.

  • Additional experience or coursework in Banking Law, AML, Privacy/Data Security, or Commercial Law is a plus.
