The Plant Operator position is responsible for the technical operation of state-of-the-art advanced wastewater treatment/biosolids handling facilities for the City of Greensboro, NC. The wastewater plant operator operates critical treatment processes on an assigned shift in compliance with internal and external procedures, guidelines, statutes and laws. The successful candidate will perform assigned treatment plant rounds by inspecting, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance testing and documenting plant processes by reading plant equipment gauges, dials, graphs, online analyzers, computer screens, meters and other instrumentation. This position also operates and adjusts treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations. The operator will maintain, compile and update plant operational logs and reports as well as perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities. The operator is also expected to add treatment chemicals, collect and document liquid and solid samples, and perform a variety of process control routine laboratory tests by working closely with the laboratory. The plant operator will perform general plant facility maintenance such as cleaning, plant facilities and will perform various grounds maintenance duties as required. Lastly, this position may operate a variety of heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, forklifts, dump trucks to assist in the unloading chemicals as needed. This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's license
- 1+ years of experience in the maintenance & repair of wastewater, water, or industrial equipment.
- Grade 1 Biological Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification ("OR" the ability to obtain within 18 months)
- Grade C NC Surface WTFO ("OR" the ability to obtain within 18 months)
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- NC Grade 1(or higher) Biological Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification,
- OR an equivalent certification from another state that has a reciprocity agreement with the Association of Boards of Certification.
