The Group Exercise (GX) Specialist supports the mission and values of the YMCA by creating an engaging, inclusive, and well-coordinated group exercise program. This role is responsible for managing the group exercise schedule, coordinating substitute instructors, teaching assigned classes, and supporting wellness-related events and initiatives. The GX Specialist also contributes to member engagement and
may serve as part of the Cause-Driven Leader on Duty team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops, organizes, and maintains the group exercise schedule to ensure a balanced and high-quality offering of classes.
- Coordinates substitute instructors and communicates schedule changes promptly and effectively.
- Teaches group exercise classes in alignment with YMCA standards and certifications.
- Assists with planning, promoting, and executing GX-related events, including quarterly Les Mills launch parties and other community wellness initiatives.
- Supports Senior Wellness activities and programs as needed.
- Builds strong relationships with members, staff, and volunteers to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Serves as part of the Cause-Driven Leader on Duty team when scheduled.
- Ensures compliance with YMCA policies and procedures, including risk management and safety standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in fitness, exercise science, or related field preferred.
- Current nationally recognized group exercise certification(s) required (e.g., Les Mills, ACE, AFAA, YMCA, etc.).
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
- Experience teaching group exercise classes and familiarity with GX program management preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and special events.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed in a fast-paced environment.
- Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
- This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.
- Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
- Must be able to use keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils.
- Uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
