Description

The mission of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal Department of Public Safety is to protect life and property, maintain order, investigate crimes, enforce all applicable laws and ordinances, protect natural resources, enforce Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal Fishing, Hunting, and Forest codes, investigate violations, arrest and issue citations on violators within the boundaries of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Reservation and within the boundaries of the Point No Point Treaty Area.

 

This is a department administrative position. The employee occupying this position is responsible for providing administrative support to department operations, statistical data updating, maintaining maintenance records, arranging for maintenance services for all equipment, court records data, and maintaining court document service logs.

 

Duties Include:

  • Image: Commands the confidence and respect of the community, staff, and others. Displays professional conduct, obeys applicable laws and policies, maintains a clean and neat appearance, and demonstrates overall conduct on and off duty in a manner that presents a positive role model.
  • Integrity: Maintains the highest standard of ethical conduct, confidentiality of all department related information, and strictly follows and enforces the chain of command.
  • Interpersonal Relations: Develops and maintains effective and positive working relationships with community members, department staff, tribal staff, and staff from other agencies and organizations. Interacts with community members and others in a manner that is respectful and culturally sensitive.
  • Judgment: Ensures sound decisions by acting within department policy and procedures.

Manages crises by following established procedures and addresses unanticipated developments by accessing appropriate resources.

  • Sensitivity: Contributes towards community development and positive community relations by being aware and considerate of the needs and feelings of others.
  • Stress Tolerance: Maintains a high level of performance maintaining stability under varied demands, circumstances, crises, opposition, and hostility.
  • Verbal Skills: Expresses self clearly and effectively when talking with individuals and groups.
  • Work Standards: Ensures the safe and successful accomplishment of department and personal performance objectives by observing high standards of conduct.
  • Writing Skills: Uses effective written communication skills to complete spreadsheets, word documents and other various forms.

 

Primary Job Duties

  • Administrative Support: Performs all assigned duties in support of department operations, maintains and updates records, data, statistics, maintenance records of equipment, arranges for maintenance on equipment when needed, and any other record assigned.
  • Meetings: Attends all meetings, community functions, seminars etc. as directed.
  • Training: Will be required to attend designated trainings. Training may involve travel and periods away from the reservation.
  • Other Duties: May be required to perform other duties outside the job description.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma, or GED required. Associates Degree Required.
  • Expierance: 3 – 5 years expierance as an Administrative Assistant or Office Manager.

 

Requirements:

  • Background Investigation: Must have successfully passed a criminal background investigation, must have no felony convictions, must have no violations of Domestic Violence, must have no misdemeanor convictions within the past three (3) years, must not have been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude, or convicted of any crime that would compromise their integrity or credibility. Must successfully complete a psychological and polygraph examination.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification: Must be currently certified in Basic First Aid and CPR or be certified within thirty (30) days of appointment.
  • Personal Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills are required, able to use word processing, Microsoft word, spreadsheets, and able to learn other related software used by the department.
  • Drug Testing: The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe is a “Drug Free Workplace” environment. Must participate in a pre-screen drug test of either urine or hair follicle.
  • Citizenship: Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Drivers License: A Valid Washington State Drivers license is required.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Local, statewide and out of state travel may be required.
