As a member of the Cloud Infrastructure team, we are seeking an experienced Cloud Database Engineer to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based database solutions on Azure, AWS, and other cloud providers. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Synapse Analytics, and other Azure data services, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance database architectures. You will work closely with developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders to drive digital transformation and cloud adoption strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL Server on VM solutions.
- Develop highly available, scalable, and secure database architectures for cloud environments.
- Guide database migration from IaaS to PaaS and/or other database systems.
- Optimize database performance using indexing, partitioning, caching, and query optimization techniques.
- Implement disaster recovery (DR), high availability (HA), and geo-replication strategies for mission-critical applications.
- Monitor database performance using Azure Monitor, Query Performance Insights, Log Analytics, and other database monitoring tools.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment of applications and infrastructure changes.
- Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of applications.
- Implement and enforce security best practices and compliance policies within the infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of database design, processes, and procedures.
- Provide as well as assist other engineers with providing problem and incident management along with chronic issue remediation plans and execution.
- Providing day-to-day remediation of risk and compliance issues in the environment.
- Performing duties following all company standards regarding engagement, change management, and escalations.
- Escalate as well as assist other engineers with escalating issues to vendors and providing root cause analysis and incident reports.
- Providing timely resolution to support issues.
- Work with a dedicated 24x7 operations team, engineering new ways of efficiently triaging events generated by the monitoring tools.
- Creation and maintenance of KB and SOP documents.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in database architecture and administration.
- Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Database Administrator Associate).
- Proficiency in cloud database offerings (Azure, AWS, etc).
- Strong expertise in SQL Server, T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization.
- Knowledge of AI/ML integrations in Azure for advanced analytics.
- Experience in Power BI (Fabric), Azure Data Factory, and Analytic tools for business intelligence.
- Experience in database migration, backup strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
- Knowledge of Azure networking, security best practices, and role-based access controls (RBAC).
- Familiarity with DevOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automation tools like Terraform or ARM templates.
- Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, etc).
- Understanding and experience with Security & Compliance (RBAC, TDE, Always Encrypted, Firewalls, and Threat Protection)
