King County Parks is seeking enthusiastic Part-Time Aquatic Center Control Room Technicians to join the team at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (WKCAC) in Federal Way, WA.
About the Role:
Every event at the Aquatic Center—from international swim meets to community diving competitions—relies on precision, coordination, and teamwork. As a Control Room Technician, you’ll play a vital part in delivering a seamless experience for athletes, officials, and spectators alike. You’ll operate timekeeping systems, scoreboards, data handling software and Video Replay systems.

Position Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
- Operate OMEGA sports equipment for swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo.
- Operate software for data handling, scoreboard operation, and video replay systems, as well as printers and copiers to support event needs.
- Operate walkie-talkies and other communication devices while performing "runner" duties, such as gathering information from timers and event staff on the pool deck.
- Assist in replacing event pool deck equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications You Bring:
- Experience or education that demonstrates ability to use a computer and learn database software applications.
- Demonstrated experience providing positive customer service experience.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy with ability to follow directions.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and irregular hours to support major events.
- Strong demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to assist in emergency situations, including facility evacuations.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit, stand, step up onto a 12" high elevated stage, and walk for shifts up to 12 hours.
- Regularly operate swimming-related equipment and computers for extended periods of up to 4 hours at a time.
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Tolerate loud sounds (officials using whistles and stadium music played over the PA system).
- Work under overhead LED lighting up to 200 footcandles, with brief moments of flashing light patterns.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:
- Prior experience officiating or managing aquatic sports competitions.
- Operating sports management software such as Hytek
- Managing OMEGA sports equipment for swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo events.
- Controlling LED videowall scoreboards.

Working Conditions:
- Work Location: King County Aquatics Center, 650 SW Campus Dr., Federal Way, WA 98023
- Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position varies based on the schedule of aquatic events and the employees’ availability. Events at the Aquatic Center are typically on the weekends, however some may start earlier in the week on Wednesday. The Part-Time Control Room Technician can expect to work an average of 17 hours per week.
- This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is not represented by a union.
