WEALTH MANAGEMENT GUARDIAN MANAGER

The Wealth Management Guardian Manager role is responsible for managing a team of fiduciary professionals who manage guardian estates when Northern Trust is named as Guardian of the Estate, with a focus on fiduciary practice leadership, risk management and growth.
Supervise guardian administration for the Chicago office, ensuring that guardian administrators, assistants/analysts and portfolio managers administer accounts in accordance with all court orders, any governing documents and governing law, adhere to court deadlines, and follow Northern policies, guidelines and standards. Ensure staff anticipates client needs, and deploys Northern resources to achieve extraordinary client service, prudent management of fiduciary risk, and growth of guardian business.
Proactively develop, recruit and manage a team of fiduciary professionals. Direct management includes training, development and coaching of individual team members. Manager is responsible for making staffing, compensation and performance decisions and effectively communicating them to individuals within the team. Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.
Cultivates relationships with referral sources, centers of influence and internal partners to build the business; identifies and develops new business opportunities. Participates in community and professional organizations representing NT. Identifies opportunities to showcase NT expertise and thought leadership.
Focused client service with responsiveness, diplomacy and tact; proactive client contact through written and verbal communication with suitable frequency. Exhibits excellent time management skills.
Builds and maintains knowledge of NT fiduciary standards and practices, applies fiduciary knowledge and judgment to guardianship estates. Understands and complies with internal policies, processes and procedures to effect prudent risk management and judgment. Recognizes fiduciary risk issues and seeks appropriate resolution.
Leads in resolution of significant fiduciary issues for all partners in team; consults with all members of client service teams on guardian estates and monitoring progress of existing at risk relationships; consults in potential servicing loss situations.
Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and / or business knowledge and functional expertise in the areas of guardianship, estate/trust administration, estate planning, investment management and financial operations
Focus on execution of strategic direction of business function activities
and carries out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues. Participates in developing division strategic plan and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit; follows through to ensure that objectives are met
General oversight of guardian accounts nationally, including chairing of national committee and acting as a resource nationally.
Displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity
The ideal candidate will benefit from having the following competencies:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in trust administration, guardian administration or related fields.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with advanced degrees preferred. (i.e. JD, LLM, MBA etc..).
- Broad knowledge of fiduciary and financial products and services, usually acquired through related work experience, is required to manage client accounts.
- Technical knowledge of investments, tax, legal, and operations usually acquired through formal education or related experience is required to service clients.
- Thorough knowledge of fiduciary standards, principles, and applicable laws and regulations usually acquired through training, seminars, or law school is required to administer guardian accounts.
- Proven skills in negotiation, problem resolution, delegation and leadership are critical.
- Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the Business Unit's goals, resources needed, and to assess and develop the skills of staff.
Salary Range:
$137,400 - 240,400 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
