FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Family and Consumer Sciences County Agent-Marion County.
Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:
Fort Valley State University Cooperative Extension Program (FVSU-CEP) is an educational resource dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Georgians and beyond through researched based initiatives and programs. The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) area focuses on helping families acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and changed behavior necessary to build strong resilient families. Our content areas include human/child development, parenting, health management/wellness, heirs' property, and energy efficiency.
Fort Valley State University's Cooperative Extension Program is seeking a Family and Consumer Sciences County Agent. The incumbent will take a holistic approach to the development of programming that is designed to improve the well-being of Georgia residents. Develop and implement strategies to expand the reach of educational programming to audiences within Marion County.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- FCS agents must be able to plan, deliver and evaluate research based educational programs that are tied to community needs and directed towards families and individuals.
- FCS agents collaborate with other agencies and community groups to implement programs.
- FCS agents should be able to utilize expertise of advisory groups, community leaders, public officials and representatives of intended audiences to carry out programs.
- Agents should be able to identify and attract resources to support the delivery of programs.
- FCS agents possess leadership qualities while being a team player for the FVSU Cooperative Extension Program.
- Agents must have the ability and desire to study and learn current research information and develop innovative implementation of programs to target audiences in appropriate subject matter.
- FCS agents will work with FVSU Extension Specialists to develop and implement a communication plan to demonstrate the public value and the impact of educational programming to both internal and external audiences.
- FCS agents may periodically be requested to serve on organizational task forces, committees or as mentors.
- This position requires a service mentality and a balance between processes, skills and subject matter expertise.
- The applicant must be able to foster and maintain relationships with the public and key stakeholders.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following areas: Family and Consumer Sciences, Food/Nutrition and Health, Dietetics, Health and Wellness, Family/Child Development, Gerontology, Financial Management, Resource Management, Family Economics or a relevant discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
- Frequent night meetings, programs and some weekend work
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
