POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Merchant is a key player in driving the success of product selection and development, providing essential support to the Merchandise Manager and Senior Merchandise Manager. This role involves independently analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) for both catalog and web channels while managing one or more product categories. The Associate Merchant will exercise independent discretion in decision-making and mentor Assistant Merchants and Merchandising Coordinators to cultivate a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop strategy, product, assortment plans and pricing in assigned categories by analysis of past business, shopping market and other retail stores.
- Interact daily with Creative, E-Commerce, Planning, Global Sourcing, Domestic Vendors and Technical Design teams to coordinate merchandising objectives and support cross collaboration.
- Conduct full cycle of competitive research by shopping catalog and retail competition to identify key items and trends and propose product development recommendations to Merchandise Manager/Senior Merchandise Manager.
- Assist Merchandise Manager/Sr. Merchandise Manager in the analysis of Key Performance Indicators and propose action plans to maximize opportunities and minimize risks and managing overall P&L.
- Mentor Assistant Merchandisers and Merchandising Interns.
- Support Merchandise Manager/Senior Merchandise Manager on transversal responsibilities for merchandising team as needed.
- Takes lead in assorting books in line with launch and promo strategy.
- Review current and previous history to make suggestions and changes to drive sales ensuring sales are maximized.
- Meet all deadlines in merchandising book building process, Surface issues and challenges with possible suggested improvements in a timely fashion.
- Accuracy always at the forefront; ensuring all parties have adequate time to process changes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, in fashion merchandising or a related field
- 3+ years of merchandising and product development experience
- Apparel experience (Catalog and/or web) is preferred
- Analytical skills required
- Ability to multitask required
- Strong communication and follow up skills required
- Detail orientation and organizational skills a must
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must
