Description
The Vice President of Construction is a key leader at Blue Heron, responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction operations from project mobilization through closeout. This role ensures that projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and at the highest standards of quality and design excellence. The VP will provide strategic leadership to the construction team, collaborate with pre-construction, design, and development, and serve as a trusted partner to clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide vision, direction, and leadership for all construction operations.
- Develop strategies to improve efficiency, quality, and profitability across projects.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation consistent with Blue Heron’s core values.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor high-performing construction teams and leaders.
Project Execution
- Oversee execution of all active construction projects, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Monitor project performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure consistent implementation of construction processes, systems, and reporting.
- Drive problem-solving and resolution of construction challenges with urgency and creativity.
Collaboration
- Partner with Pre-Construction, Design, and Development teams to ensure seamless project transitions.
- Work with Finance, Legal, and Procurement teams to manage budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.
- Collaborate with Business Development to support project pursuits and client proposals.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, trade partners, and community stakeholders.
- Serve as the executive point of contact for clients during construction, ensuring alignment and satisfaction.
- Represent Blue Heron at industry events, conferences, and public forums.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive construction leadership experience, with at least 5 years in an executive role.
- Proven success managing complex, high-value projects from start to finish.
- Deep knowledge of construction means, methods, safety standards, building codes, and project controls.
- Strong financial and business acumen with experience managing P&L for large projects or divisions.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam).
