This position functions as a professional compliance specialist under the guidance of the Farming Food Safety Manager and is responsible for ensuring compliance through technical expertise, training, and audit readiness. The role requires independent judgment, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work across multiple farming operations. Additional Info:What You Will Need:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in food safety compliance, auditing, or quality assurance within agriculture or fresh produce.
- Demonstrated experience in creating, updating, and implementing food safety programs.
- Knowledge of GAPs, GFSI audit schemes, FSMA Produce Safety Rule, and LGMA.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct risk assessments and resolve non-conformances.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train, mentor, and collaborate across diverse teams.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with compliance or data management systems a plus.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision while working under manager direction.
- Employee may be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to including some evenings and weekend travel.
- Must work in the Coachella area for approximately five months out of the year during entire winter harvest season. (Housing or housing allowance is provided by the company). No vacation (PTO) will be allowed during this time, and excessive unexcused absences will result in either end of assignment or transfer back to Lamont.
- Bi-lingual, English/Spanish.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record
- Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen
What Will Set You Apart:
- Four-year degree in Food Science, Biology, Agronomy, or a related field.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support the Farming Food Safety Manager in leading farm food safety programs across multiple crops and regions.
- Prepare farming operations for scheduled and unannounced third-party, regulatory, and customer audits.
- Facilitate responses to customer information requests and audit documentation.
- Conduct risk assessments and help identify areas of potential food safety concern.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of corrective and preventive actions under manager guidance.
- Provide training and ongoing support to growers, harvesters, and labor contractors to ensure compliance with GAPs and regulatory standards.
- Verify that farming operations are consistently meeting food safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain, review, and file all farm food safety documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Assist in developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in food safety.
- Protect security and confidentiality of company records and information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Farming Food Safety Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to occasionally move about inside the office, food processing facilities and frequently move around farming fields. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to inspect equipment and product. Ability to continuously work outdoors all day in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Ability to work with farming chemicals. Must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 110° F and as cold as -20° F to 32° F). Work in wet and damp environment.
Benefits:Total Rewards: $68,640 - $75,000 / YEAR
- Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
