Job purpose
The Sr. Manager, Revenue and Trade Operations, is responsible for managing and implementing trade strategies within the Retail BU Sales division. This includes building, managing, tracking, and overseeing trade budgets to ensure spending levels align with sales volume at each customer. This position will work cross-functionally with accounting, demand planning and the Sales Directors to develop business processes necessary to ensure proper Deduction Settlement Management within 60 days or less. The Sr. Manager will lead the implementation of our Trade Planning Management software and processes. They will lead and mentor any direct reports and work closely with 3rd party brokers to ensure all company policies and procedures are adhered to. The position requires in-depth knowledge of trade management and expertise working with Sales, Customer Service, Supply/Logistics and Accounting, preferably in the consumer-packaged goods industries.
Main Responsibilities
- Partner with the Sales Directors to track progress towards volume, revenue and trade targets by channel, customer and sales category.
- Review promotional investments by customer and event to ensure alignment to brand strategy and align with business expectations.
- Understand, develop, and streamline current procedures, systems, reports, and metrics in the sales deductions process.
- Establish and monitor processes to ensure accurate and timely information flow to internal systems.
- Create improvements that reduce the administrative effort in the field and decrease re-work and redundancy in the deduction generation process.
- Manage and track Idahoan trade budget through monthly meetings with Sales Directors.
- Provide data and insights into the sales post promotional event analysis process.
- Manage the trade spend forecast with monthly updates to Finance.
- Create procedures and processes to translate a high-level promotional plan into individual events that will be entered into the systems and communicated to all relevant parties.
- Identify invalid deductions, post audits, and collect repayments.
- Develops trade spend related reporting tools
- Train direct reports, brokers and other team members how to use the various software tools used in trade spending management.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of productivity tools for promotion management. System upgrade and integration as necessary.
- Build relationships and work directly with sales, customer service, logistics, and accounting
- Ensure adherence to and help to create best practices
- Continuous improvement to research and resolve issues with other groups in a timely manner
- Spending Oversight: Oversee the Company’s promotions and trade spend to ensure accuracy down to the trade accrual percentage deployment by account. Work closely with sales, accounting, and outside brokers to manage the process. Work to minimize account write-offs. Notify Sales Directors when problems occur. Oversees spoils invoices, communicates and provides sales information as needed.
- Supervise Team: Work closely with the Retail trade spend team members to ensure training and processes are up to date. Will understand how to use all systems used for tracking Idahoan Foods Trade Spend. Provides quality customer service for trade spend management to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Program Oversight: Be the subject matter expert for the Trade Promotion Management system for Retail and work closely with marketing, Sales Directors, and brokers. Provide continual process improvement to the Promotions and Trade Spend of Idahoan. Research best practices and programs for the Retail and Club channels and provide recommendations to improve efficiencies.
- Budget Control: Work with the Sales Directors on their promotional planning efforts to ensure accuracy and prevent overspending based on the available trade spend accruals.
- Accounting Oversight: Work with A/R and A/P to make sure deductions and payments are written off to the correct customer, GL, region, broker etc. Make corrections in A/R ledger at the customer, GL, region, broker etc. level when written off incorrectly. Verify and release check requests, volume for deductions short of funds, and missed promotions not in the TPM system.
- Funding Audit: Request repayment of invalid deductions and past due invoices in a timely manner. Attach customer checks and back up daily for deductions received. Pull back up from various customer web sites. Clear cash discounts, freight allowances, coupons, shortages, and damages on a daily basis in order to track the TPM system.
- Review Trade Spend Entries: Working with the Sales Directors, ensure data entry is current for funding each FY by Slotting, Accrual, Spoils, etc. Provide ad hoc reports as needed.
- Data Entry: Provide oversight and keep current data entry for funding each FY by Slotting, Accrual, Spoils, etc. Oversee and confirm accuracy of entering the Accrual amounts by item by region, for promotions and slotting by customer.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferred and 7+ years’ experience in trade spend/revenue growth management, preferably in the consumer-packaged goods industries. A combination of education and experience would also be considered.
- Experience leading the implementation of Trade Management Software in a prior role.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and expertise with Adesso and Exceedra trade management systems. Multiple trade management system experience strongly preferred.
- Experience building and streamlining processes related to trade spend management and optimization.

- Language Skills: Must have effective oral and written communication skills, and thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.
- Math Skills: This position requires quantitative skills and knowledge of math functions such as percentages, decimals, and the ability to chart numerical data appropriately.
- Computer Skills: Intermediate/Advance Excel skills including spreadsheet layout, formulas, charts, and graphs; PowerPoint presentations including graphs, charts, clip art; Access databases and reporting; and the ability to independently format professional documents.
- Reasoning Ability: Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational and analytical skills. This position requires quantitative skills and knowledge of math functions such as percentages, decimals, and the ability to chart numerical data appropriately. Must be a team player who is able to react to change productively, be flexible and accept changing assignments and accountabilities. Demonstrates self-confidence and maturity to make decisions and solve problems with minimal direction. Organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

Travel: This position is based in our Corporate Office in Idaho Falls, ID and requires minimal travel. Consideration would be made for a remote candidate with the right experience.
