Primary Accountability:
The Quality Control Technician will perform quality inspections and product approvals on the shop floor and will coach and hold team members accountable for quality work habits. They will track quality performance measures and use a team approach to improve the found areas of opportunity within the process, member skill, or machine capabilities. The Quality Control Technician is ultimately responsible for supporting and promoting the quality culture within the shop and the delivery of an ever-improving quality product to our customers.
Major Duties:
- Take full ownership of the quality performance and culture of the manufacturing department.
- Responsible for quality assurance and process verifications within each step of the manufacturing process, releasing only high-quality products to the next step.
- Track the quality performance of the shop floor members to find areas of improvement.
- Use a team approach to improve the quality of our product on the shop floor.
- Promote a culture of quality within the members of the shop fabrication team.
- Develop and enforce good manufacturing practice systems, validate processes, and update quality assurance procedures.
- Develop and implement techniques and processes for testing and inspecting product and process controls.
- Conduct research and recommend appropriate changes in methods and procedures as needed.
- Kit/group the parts and pieces needed for welding and assembly when time allows.
- Work safely and immediately correct any safety issues seen or discovered.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the manufacturing of steel products and/or structures.
- Proficient in using basic computer software, calculators, calipers, tape measure, micrometers and other technical equipment.
- Proficient in reading and understanding detailed part and assembly prints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
- Detail oriented with a quality mindset, drive, and passion.
- Be highly adaptable and possess the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Basic abilities to operate Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Proficiency is preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Physically mobile throughout day across variety of surfaces.
- Ability to read paper drawings, computer screens, and email.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, twist and grip items on the shop floor.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to twenty five (25) pounds.
Work Environment:
- Majority (80%-90%) of time will be spent on the manufacturing floor with a small portion in an office setting.
- Manufacturing floor is NOT climate controlled. It is dusty, sometimes confined, and possesses constant trip hazards.
- Interaction with team members and clients in both remote and on-site locations.
- Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
