Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER) Travel Position
Location: Lansing, MI
Job Type: Travel Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 4×12 Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Pay: $2,712/week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts)
Position Summary
ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Lansing, Michigan. This role is based in a Level I Trauma Center, Stroke Center, Heart Center, and Pediatric Emergency Department, offering a dynamic and fast-paced environment serving patients of all ages.
The ER RN will be responsible for providing immediate and comprehensive care to patients presenting with trauma, cardiac, neurological, and other emergent medical conditions. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong critical thinking, trauma response skills, and the ability to thrive under high-volume conditions.
Note: Travelers must be willing to work high patient ratios (typically 1:5–6; may increase up to 1:8 during peak times) and agree to work 3 weekends (Fri–Sun) per 4-week schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rapid assessments, triage, and emergency interventions for critical and non-critical patients across adult, pediatric, and geriatric populations.
- Manage trauma and cardiac emergencies, including STEMI, CVA, neuro-trauma, and orthopedic injuries.
- Administer and monitor continuous IV and procedural sedation, blood products, and vasoactive medications.
- Provide care for ventilated, post-trauma, and post-procedural patients.
- Recognize and manage dysrhythmias, arterial lines, and central line access.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic EMR.
- Float as needed within the ER service line, including Pediatric Emergency Department when required.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection control, and patient safety standards.
- Work scheduled weekends and holidays as assigned (2 of 3 major holidays required).
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license (must be active by start date; compact not accepted).
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of recent ER nursing experience in a Level I Trauma Center (required).
- Epic EMR experience required.
Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support, AHA)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, AHA)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support, AHA)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Preferred Certifications:
- CPI or MAB (Crisis/Management of Aggressive Behavior)
Preferred Skills:
- Triage experience
- Continuous IV and procedural sedation
- Management of dysrhythmias, trauma care, and ventilated patients
RTO Policy: Must be submitted at time of submission; no more than 5 total days and no RTO during the first week.
Flu vaccine: Unknown (subject to facility policy).
COVID-19 vaccine: Not required.
Recent tuberculosis (TB) test required.
Modules: Non-billable; approximately 5 hours to be completed before start date.
