ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Join world-class experts in finding answers to our customers’ toughest questions as a New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer.
The NPI Engineer’s role is to provide crucial leadership and technical development skills to advance our new product developments projects from the engineering realm into a controlled production environment and to provide sustaining engineering level support. You will be at the intersection of design, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality.
You will function as a player/coach on the team by taking an active, hand-on role in supporting the Design Engineering team during the development phase and become a technical product lead in supporting the pre-production and production transfer phases.
This role is based in Rochester, NY, will report to the Director of Engineering, and requires daily on-site presence (although occasional remote work is allowable).
Specifically, this role will:
Manage the day-to-day activities and tasks of some engineering-level staff and engineering technicians across the organization, and serve as an individual contributor on new product development projects, primarily from a documentation, quality, manufacturing, and production side.
Own New Product Introductions. Take point on ensuring new products are designed with an emphasis on manufacturability, have all the necessary documentation, assembly instructions, test procedures, and KPI tracking methods in place to ensure high-quality, low defect products are produced in a timely manner according to engineering prescribed performance metrics. Strong experience with ISO, 6Sigma, PPAP, PFMEA, DFMEA and an ability to lead root cause analysis investigations is important.
Technical Project Management: Work closely with Design Engineering Leadership and Project Management teams to help accelerate new product introductions into a Production environment and see to the successful execution and technical support of new programs.
Draw from your engineering experience and provide guidance and training to systems engineering technicians for the build, test, and shipment of sophisticated optical instrumentation.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments within Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Production, Finance, Supply Chain, etc.
Prepare and Review Reports: Generate detailed reports on system performance, quantitatively analyze data, create control charts, and track essential KPIs.

ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate brings a broad engineering background and should possess:
Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical, Mechanical, Optics, or other engineering field.
Experience: 3-8+ years of work experience ideally in optics, electronics, full systems development, integration/test, and engineering management.
Desired Skills:
Enthusiasm for collaboration and leadership.
A demonstrated understanding of experimental methods and testing.
Experience in optical systems development.
Familiarity with CAD Modeling (using SolidWorks or similar).
Excellent high-level technical presentation skills.
Excellent computer skills and savviness with modern technologies.
Strong technical problem-solving ability.
An entrepreneurial spirit and mindset, bringing a natural curiosity for what “can be” and the willingness to challenge boundaries.
Ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity.
Ability to operate effectively in a highly-matrixed organization, influencing culture and decisions.

High standard of ethics and integrity.
Background in optics is desirable but not required.
Ability to travel domestically or internationally as-needed.

COMPENSATION
The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000 per year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
