Position:         Shift Supervisor (1st and 2nd)

Reports to:     Plant Manager

Location:        Buffalo Grove, IL Plant

Hours:           1 PM- 9:30 PM, Monday-Thursday (Friday off) with every other Saturday. The weeks that he/she doesn’t work Saturday, the work week will be Monday-Friday. 

 

 

Position Summary:

 

PPC Flexible Packaging is a premier flexographic manufacturer of precision clean room flat bags, pouches, header pouches, and roll stock.  This position will report directly to the Plant Manager and ensure compliance to company standards, work rules, and all applicable performance standards set by the company. 

 

Primary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety:
    1. Maintain a zero recordable safety culture by establishing shift Gemba walks and facilitating task specific safety risk assessments. 
  • Lean Manufacturing:
    1. Support and promote an environment that improves efficiency by using 5S techniques, Kaizen events, and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement and waste reduction efforts.
  • Output: 
    1. Realize the planned output of all deliverables.
    2. Ensure the availability and usefulness of the means of production, in cooperation with operations team.
    3. Maintain and exceed productivity KPIS = 250K flat bags/50K pouches and support 2.5 million feet output goal for 2 CI flexographic press machines.
    4. Ensure that the level of know-how and the training of the team members is sufficient to be able to realize all plans. 
      • Maintain training records as needed per essential job skills
  • Transactional Integrity:
    1. Ensure inventory reconciliation requirements are completed and all transactions to support external delivery are maintained (i.e. scanning to and from warehouse/lines/etc.)
      • Support inventory auditing and verification points
  • Support: 
    1. Ensure tools and equipment is maintained in proper working order 
    2. Coordinate equipment repair with maintenance department, as required
  • Quality: 
    1. Ensure the quality of the output meets full product specifications: through effective production processes and sufficient know how/training.
    2. Ensure work force abides by any and all quality regulations (SQF/ISO/GMPs)
    3. Collaborate with QA to address deviations, perform investigations, quality elements, and implement corrective/preventive actions and be accountable for maintaining an inspection-ready operation at all times.
    4. Back up practitioner for the Quality Engineer.
  • Cooperation: 
    1. Support cooperation throughout production by: finding solutions and improving working concepts along with supporting the execution of all tasks/regulation standards.
  • Training
    1. Ensure training matrices are adequately maintained and updated
    2. Continuously ensure information in training matrix is aligned with current state responsibilities

Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of converting operations including but not limited to the following: flexographic printing, pouch and flat bag conversion, slitting, and solvent-less lamination. Previous experience in implementing programs such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Lead Time management and Quality Improvement Initiatives. Ability to coach, select, and train high performing workforce. Strong computer skills including basic Microsoft Word and Excel and ERP experience (EFI Radius a plus). Advanced project management skills.

Minimum Qualifications: 

5-7 years of demonstrated leadership experience with 30+ employees and experience working on an off shift is required. In addition, previous supervisory experience working in a unionized plant managing a labor contract is must. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, demonstrated team building success, problem-solving, decision-making and project management abilities. Continuing desire for personal growth and development of leadership and managerial abilities.
