Job Description:

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department to include the supervision of assigned subordinates. The Manager of Accounting is responsible for ensuring staff receives adequate support and training to maintain high work quality and service standards. This position is responsible for accurate financial reporting in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Regulatory reporting, and ensures the delivery of high-quality Member service. This position is responsible for providing technical staff support during staff vacations and shortages, and coordinates the composition and maintenance of all department procedures. In addition, this position provides inter-department accounting support for credit union initiatives, serving in an advisory capacity on various project teams, and supports senior department Management in various other projects.

Essential Functions

  • Accounting Department Daily Functions / Optimization: Manage and monitor the Department's daily activities to ensure department work quality and standards are maintained. Ensure any exceptions are researched and resolved effectively. Review accounting processes for effective efficiencies, initiating and implementing process improvements as needed. Provide inter-department accounting support for credit union initiatives, serving in an advisory capacity on various project teams. Manage and monitor the month-end process for producing the monthly financials to include analytical review of the General Ledger variances. Review the General Ledger reconciliations for accuracy and completeness, and proper classification of outstanding items, to include sign-off indicating management review. Manage the composition and maintenance of all department procedures to include maintaining the department's business resumption activities.
  • Staff Alignment / Team Development: Provide supervision, training, cross-training, cross-coverage, and support to the Accounting Department staff. Monitor employee performance and provide on-going feedback and coaching to assigned subordinates. Compose and deliver staff performance evaluations. Work with cross-functional staff and colleagues, evaluate staff workload distribution, staff assignments, and make recommendations to Management for changes or reassignments as the Credit Union grows and changes.
  • Accounting Strategy Formulation / Implementation / Special Projects: Participate in ad hoc special projects related to all aspects of Accounting as an internal consultant and/or project owner. Such projects may be cross-departmental / organizational in scope and may affect the entirety of the organization. Assist in research, development, and implementation of accounting processes to support credit union products and services, system conversions, upgrades, mergers and acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives as directed by Senior Management. Serve on or liaise with various committees as assigned. Other related accounting duties to include participation in regulatory reporting, interacting with internal and external auditors, and examiners.
  • Bank Secrecy Act: Remains cognizant of and adheres to Ent policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
Qualifications:

Minimum Formal Qualifications for this Position

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Finance.
  • Master's Degree in Accounting / Finance. preferred
  • 7+ years' experience in the accounting or finance field to include: Required
  • 2+ years' supervisory experience. Required


Technical or Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

 

 

  • Advanced communication, organizational, and customer service skills, to interact constructively with all levels of staff and management, external auditors, and examiners.
  • Ability to independently analyze complex accounting transactions and general ledger variances.
  • Ability to make rational, independent business decisions using a high level of common sense.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Literacy in the use of personal computer applications and ten-key is necessary.
  • Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Remain current with statements issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) to assess impact to accounting processes and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Properly account for and ensure the timely payment of credit union expenditures.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and changing assignments.
  • Ability to manage a high level of detail with absolute accuracy and ability to employ common sense.
  • Ability to write with logical clarity to produce formalized documentation for assigned processes and duties.
  • Ability to supervise assigned staff members, assist in their development and training, and assess their strengths and weakness.
  • Provide appropriate feedback and make recommended changes for staff assignments.


Certifications Required:

 

 

  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA). preferred

Additional Information:

The pay range for this position is: $107,016 to $118,289 per Year (S17)

Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, certifications, and internal pay equity.

This position is eligible for our corporate bonus program based on company performance.
