 MOMENTUM INDOOR CLIMBING - FACILITIES LEAD

The Facilities Lead keeps Momentum’s spaces safe, functional, and welcoming. This hands-on role ensures that all climbing, fitness, and building systems run smoothly across the gym. Working closely with the General Manager and other team leaders, the Facilities Lead plans, performs, and documents facility maintenance, repairs, and inspections while helping the team deliver an exceptional experience to members and guests.

This role blends technical skill with initiative and collaboration. The Facilities Lead works both independently and in coordination with other staff to complete maintenance schedules, respond to issues, and improve facility systems.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Innovation

  • Maintain an environment that supports excellent member and guest experiences by keeping equipment and spaces in top condition.
  • Execute and refine maintenance routines, adjusting workflows and schedules based on experience and feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance facility operations and design and implement effective solutions.
  • Guide or mentor other staff when assistance is needed on facility projects.
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks according to established schedules and operational needs.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Represent Momentum with professionalism and respect while performing work throughout the facility.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and management through Slack, meetings, and regular updates.
  • Provide clear reporting on project status, inspection results, and maintenance challenges.
  • Take ownership of outcomes, both successful and otherwise, and recommend improvements when needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to a positive, solutions-oriented workplace.

Risk Management

  • Complete inspections and maintenance tasks in alignment with the Facility & Climbing Component Inspections Standard Operating Procedure and other safety policies.
  • Maintain accurate inspection logs and service records to support both safety and efficiency.
  • Proactively identify and address potential risks to staff, members, and visitors.
  • Report facility or equipment concerns promptly to management and take appropriate action to mitigate hazards.

Routine & Periodic Tasks

  • Perform regular inspections and replace critical climbing components (e.g., ropes, harnesses, belay devices, flooring).
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on systems such as HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and fitness equipment.
  • Record all inspections, repairs, and contractor services in the designated tracking systems.
  • Monitor inventory of tools, parts, and supplies, coordinating with the General Manager for restocking.
  • Follow the Regional Inspection Schedule and established SOPs to ensure compliance and consistency.

Projects & Unexpected Tasks

  • Assist with budgeting and planning for facility maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Perform general repairs, such as plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, and minor carpentry or fabrication.
  • Assemble and install new equipment, fixtures, or furnishings as needed.
  • Support gym events by setting up temporary structures, moving padding, or coordinating rentals.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, performing repairs or scheduling contractors to resolve issues.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Experience, Skills, and Certifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, drywall, or general facility maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving and mechanical abilities; capable of diagnosing and fixing issues independently.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to maintain schedules and records.
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written; comfortable using Slack, email, and phone.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated and dependable; able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Work Schedule & Availability

  • Part-time (10–20 hours per week).
  • Flexibility to work during open hours as well as some weekends or after hours for projects or emergencies.
  • Ability to respond promptly to urgent facility needs.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Comfortable working in a high-energy, climbing gym environment.
  • Able to work at height using ladders, climbing walls, and aerial lifts.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and lift or carry up to 75 lbs regularly.
  • Capable of balancing, pushing, pulling, and handling materials safely.
  • Visual acuity to inspect detailed components and detect signs of damage or wear.
