Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Control Room Operator to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Process Plant Operations Supervisor, the Control Room Operator operates all the circuits from the Central Control Room, through the distributed control system.  In this role the Control Room Operator monitors all established parameters and takes appropriate actions to ensure compliance and high performance while maintaining high HSE standards.  The incumbent is responsible for following standard operating procedures, monitoring equipment and process performance, troubleshooting mechanical and process problems, and completing operator reports.  In addition, the Control Room Operator is the central point of communication in the plant and interacts with floor operators, maintenance technicians and engineers.

 

This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates leadership in Health, Safety and Environment through personal behaviors and conversations. 
  • Establish and promotes a respectful and healthy work environment at all times.
  • Be a courageous health, safety, and environment leader, adhere to and promote health, safety and environmental standards, policies and procedures.
  • Promotes a proactive approach of continuous improvement by reporting all Health, Safety and Environment incidents and communicates solutions.  
  • Participates in Health, Safety and Environment initiatives, reviews, and investigations.
  • Performs pre-operational checks and operates equipment according to standard operating procedures.
  • Monitors equipment and processes, and conduct troubleshooting activities when problems arise, interacting with the Supervisor as required to correct.
  • Performs plant housekeeping activities as required.
  • Completes operator reports and ensure that equipment deficiencies and operational issues are communicated to the supervisor.
  • Participates in crew safety meetings.
  • Supports maintenance activities as required.
  • Completes training modules, exercises and testing required.
  • Ensures that the grinding, leaching, elution and detoxification circuits are operating within specified limits.
  • Operates small, motorized equipment.
  • Communicates with supervisor regarding all aspects of the process plant operations.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Required:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of operating experience in a processing plant, including 2 years of operating experience in the mining industry. 
  • Previous experience as control room operator required.
  • Experience working in a remote industrial environment will be considered an asset.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to understand mineral processing theory and practice.
  • Familiar with the safe work practices and standard operating procedures of a process plant.
  • Knowledge of process plant processes and ability to operate the equipment autonomously at the completion of the training period.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in an industrial workplace and understand their role in assessing and managing risk.
  • Ability to apply logical thinking to solve problems and “trouble-shoot” abnormal situations to correct mechanical or process problems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment repairs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with operations and maintenance personnel in the course of carrying out the duties.
  • Proficient with operating a computer and running process plant applications.
  • knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
  • Knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
  • A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
