Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and reporting to the Manager, Tuberculosis (TB) Program, the Community Engagement Specialist TB Program, provides leadership and supports engagement with communities, potential service partners, families, patients and community members experiencing the impacts of TB. This position works within a program having territorial scope whose ultimate goal is the elimination of TB in Nunavut.

Responsibilities

The Community Engagement Specialist works with partners, both internal and external to the formal health care system, including Inuit perspectives, gleaned from individuals with TB, their families and community. The role brings these diverse perspectives forward so they can be incorporated into the health system. The position ensures reciprocal and culturally safe influences and adaptations lead to successful and meaningful interventions in the current crisis. Highlighting, with Inuit input, the unique needs and perspectives of Inuit, the position enhances dialogue, communication, consultation, and participation amongst all stakeholders and will enhance community understanding of the challenges in the management of TB. The position will also help integrate clinical evidence-based expertise for the identification, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of TB, incorporating Inuit healthful perspectives on TB and healing.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Diploma in health care, health promotion, public health or nursing, along with two (2) years of related experience.  This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. 

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
