THE ROLE

The HSE Coordinator promotes, implements, and maintains Health, Safety, and Environmental programs within RMS’s Houston Works facility. This role ensures a safe and compliant work environment through safety inspections, employee training, incident investigation, and environmental monitoring. The position supports RMS’s corporate HSE objectives and works collaboratively with Facilities and Operations to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state regulations.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of shop operations, equipment, and work areas
  • Identify hazards, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate safety training sessions and maintain training records.
  • Ensure availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Lead or support incident investigations, track corrective actions, and share lessons learned.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness, including evacuation drills and response procedures

Environmental Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including TCEQ, EPA, and municipal permitting requirements.
  • Support air emissions, stormwater, and waste management programs.
  • Maintain and organize environmental records (e.g., manifests, inspections, permits, reports).
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager and Corporate QHSE on permit renewals and environmental reporting.
  • Support site recycling, waste reduction, and spill prevention initiatives.

Industrial Hygiene

  • Conduct or coordinate exposure assessments for noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory systems.
  • Support hazard communication (HazCom) and respiratory protection programs.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene sampling and medical surveillance programs as needed.

Continuous Improvements

  • Participate in safety and environmental committees to promote best practices.
  • Analyze incidents and audit data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Stay informed of industry regulations, technological advances, and emerging best practices.
  • Contribute to HSSE audits and management review activities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of combined Health, Safety, and Environmental experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, EPA environmental regulations, and state environmental compliance (e.g., TCEQ).
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene principles and monitoring methods
  • Hands-on experience with key safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space entry, and waste management
  • Experience developing and delivering HSE training programs
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to interpret safety and environmental data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems

REQUIRED EDUCATION 

  • Associate’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on will be considered.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The position may be based in RMS’s Houston, TX facility 
  • Travel time is expected to be 25 - 40%
  • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs.
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Ability to act professionally under stressful situations. 
  • Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance and perform physical inspections in shop environment
  • Ability to walk, climb, reach above head, and balance.
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
