About the Role:
The Medical Assistant 3 at Gastroenterology of Ocean County (GOC) plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care within a specialized gastroenterology practice. This position involves performing advanced clinical and administrative duties to support physicians and nursing staff, ensuring efficient patient flow and accurate medical documentation. The Medical Assistant 3 is responsible for preparing patients for examinations, assisting with procedures, and managing patient records with precision and confidentiality. This role requires a strong understanding of gastroenterology-specific protocols and the ability to communicate effectively with patients of diverse backgrounds. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant 3 contributes to the overall patient experience by providing compassionate care and supporting the clinical team in achieving optimal health outcomes. The main location for this position is Gastroenterologists of Ocean County in Tom's River but will also support Brick and Forked River.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in gastroenterology or a related specialty.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures relevant to gastroenterology.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working specifically in a gastroenterology practice or endoscopy center.
- Additional certifications such as Phlebotomy or EKG Technician credentials.
- Familiarity with insurance billing and coding related to gastroenterology services.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex patient interactions with empathy and professionalism.
- Advanced training in infection control and sterile technique.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for gastroenterological examinations and procedures by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and explaining processes to patients.
- Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including endoscopies and colonoscopies, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready and sterile.
- Manage patient records by accurately entering clinical data into electronic health records (EHR) systems and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinate patient scheduling, follow-up appointments, and communicate test results or instructions as directed by healthcare providers.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure the cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and procedural areas.
