DEFINITION
The Assistant Fitness Coordinator plans, organizes, schedules and assists in supervision of programs in the Fitness Department. Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to the administration of programs and activities. Position must work well independently and with the public while providing excellent customer service and human relations skills which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Recreation Supervisor of Fitness. Assists in supervision of Fitness staff including personal trainers and group fitness instructors.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Availability for Personal Training and Group Fitness classes as needed.
Assist Supervisor to recruit, train, hire, and evaluate Personal Trainers and Group Fitness Instructors.
Assist in coordination of Group Fitness schedule, programs, and special events.
Assist Supervisor in coordination of personal training clients.
Must be able to fill in for Personal Training or teach Group Fitness classes.
Create, promote, implement, and evaluate all fitness programs and services.
Assist the Fitness Supervisor in creating, supervising, promoting, and evaluating wellness programs, events, and services for youth and adults.
Build positive relationships with patrons and class participants by offering exceptional customer service and being present on the floor and in Group Fitness classes.
Identify community needs and implement new health and fitness programming.
Assist in providing regular staff trainings and continuing education for staff.
Maintain awareness of new developments in the fitness industry.
Prepare and coordinate marketing for events including press releases, newsletters, flyers, pamphlets, and brochures.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness. Evaluate programs regularly.
Keep logs on all fitness equipment.
Assist with daily inspections, ensuring studio and weight room are clean and equipment is maintained and working properly.
Help implement policies and procedures for fitness staff.
Host and conduct regular First Aid/CPR/AED classes for Fitness staff.
Assist with wellness fairs, events, and workshops.
Assists Fitness Supervisor with daily operations and is responsible for the operation of the Fitness department in the Supervisor’s absence.
Answer questions and provide information to the public. Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action necessary to resolve complaints.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Plan, organize, and implement specific recreation programs or activities such as classes or special events.
Work with the public and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Train and provide functional supervision for employees, contract, and volunteer staff.
Teach all Fitness classes offered.
Safely operate a motor vehicle during a variety of weather conditions while working.
Operate standard office equipment.
High level of computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Publisher, Power Point and Excel.
Knowledge of fitness and weight room equipment.
Knowledge of recreational fitness, cultural, and social needs of the community.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Completion of high school or GED/equivalent and some demonstrated experience and familiarity with organizing similar types of recreation programs or activities.
One (1) year of experience organizing recreation programs with either a municipal recreation center or community-based recreation facility preferred.
Group Fitness Certification. Personal Training Certification.
Minimum of one (1) year of Fitness management experience preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year Personal Training experience required.
Minimum of one (1) year Group Fitness instruction experience required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform moderate physical work. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally more. Ability to operate various field maintenance equipment when necessary. Ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, bend, kneel, twist, and perform similar body movements. Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate office equipment including a computer and a vehicle. Ability to talk and hear in person and by telephone. Ability to see and read instructions, manuals, recreation and fitness programs in progress, and characters on a computer screen.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to obtain Standard CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire date.
Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license with good driving record.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire
