The University of Maine System (UMS) IT Support Services department is seeking three Technology Support Technicians to join our team. These positions focus on providing responsive, high-quality desktop support for faculty and staff. 

The Technology Support Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining end-user computing environments, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring the reliability of daily operations across campus. Key Responsibilities:

•    Install, configure, and support desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and related peripherals. 
•    Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and connectivity issues through in-person and remote channels (phone, email, remote tools).
•    Maintain accurate records of technical support activities using ticketing and inventory systems.
•    Develop and deploy standard desktop software images.
•    Coordinate service delivery with other IT staff and assist with small projects related to desktop infrastructure.
•    Provide onboarding and technical setup for new employees or device replacement.
•    Deliver excellent customer service and follow up on open support issues.  

Schedule and Location:

•    The standard hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
•    Some weekend or evening hours may be required, depending on semester or departmental needs.
•    Two positions are located on the Portland campus, and one position is located on the Gorham campus.

Compensation and Benefits:
The starting wage is $25.19 per hour (non-negotiable), or the appropriate transfer rate for ACSUM/COLT unit members within the University of Maine System.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in a related field and three years of experience in a professional environment, or a combination of education and experience to equal five years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, Windows and macOS.
  • Demonstrated ability in the configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of current operating systems, client productivity tools, peripherals, wired and wireless networks, and mobile devices via certifications, education, and/or experience.
  • Familiarity with common software applications and device troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to manage priorities and adapt to a fast-paced support environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience with support ticketing systems and technical documentation.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs occasionally and perform tasks such as reaching, kneeling, and carrying equipment (with or without accommodations).
