The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Postdoctoral Scholar for Transforming Lives Initiatives. This position will help coordinate institutional Transforming Lives initiatives. UMA scholars are expected to split their time between teaching and service to the institution. The Transforming Lives Scholar will work in concert with the UMA Transforming Lives Council and report directly to and perform assignments requested by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences & Associate Provost and perform additional duties as requested by the Provost. 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Teach one to two 3 credit courses per fall and spring semesters in either in-person, asynchronous, synchronous, hyflex, and/or hybrid modalities in support of the General Education Curriculum and/or courses in their area of expertise as recommended by the appropriate coordinator and approved by the Dean.
  2. Support the Strategic Plan objectives of the UMA 5-Year Strategic Plan, and support the development of the next Strategic Plan by taking the lead on the following tasks:
    • Update the UMA Transforming Lives Council website.
    • Transforming Lives Council event planning including organizations, invitations, and implementation.
    • Support executive communications in the form of emails, event initiatives, UMA newsletters, etc. as it pertains to action and events associated with the UMA Transforming Lives Council and University-wide initiatives as requested.
    • Work collaboratively with other UMA offices including but not limited to Marketing and Communications, Student Life, and Admissions as required objectives of the strategic plan.
    • Plan and implement curricular and co-curricular projects that support the mission of UMA that directly align with the strategic plan. 
    • Update the heritage month calendar as Council events and community events are shared.
    • Attend the Transforming Lives Council monthly meetings and support sub-committees.
    • Identify barriers to students and help UMA meet its Transforming Lives mission.
    • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A doctorate in a field that would align with the UMA College of Arts and Sciences
    • Applicants with an ABD status will be considered if completion of degree occurs before anticipated start date.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in higher education
  • Experience or scholarship that aligns with the institutional mission.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching asynchronous and synchronous online courses
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and collaborations among college offices and in the community
  • Leadership experience in higher education.

Salary:  The hiring salary range for this position is in the mid to high $50,000’s and is commensurate with qualifications and previous experience.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00 PM, evenings and weekends as necessary.
