Summary:

This position is responsible for producing high quality mammographic images and special examinations necessary i.e needle localizations, imaging of specimens, spot magnifications and stereotactic biopsies, Additional responsibilities are performing quality assurance activities as established by the department and regulatory agencies in a timely accurate manner. This position accurately applies ionizing radiation for radiologic
diagnosis, including skills required in performing a variety of
technical procedures, resulting in the highest quality diagnostic
radiograph, with the least amount of radiation exposure to the
patient.

Responsibilities:

(50%) Performs high quality mammographic examinations with accurate positioning and proper technique by following established standards. Demonstrate proficiency in special procedures: needle localizations, imaging of specimens, spot magnification, and stereotactic biopsies and bone densitometry (DEXA) if done in the department.

 

(20%) *Performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures utilizing
accurate application of ionizing radiation for radiologic
diagnosis. Adjusts technical factors to provide appropriate exposure by use of
independent judgment, knowledge of human anatomy, effect of disease
on the radiograph and the principles of radiation as well as the
specific operation of all radiologic equipment within the
department.

 

(20%) *Positions patient and equipment appropriately to accurately
demonstrate the area being examined, requiring extensive anatomic
positioning skills. Provides appropriate radiation protection for patient and staff
during radiation exposures according to prescribed safety
standards.

 

(10%) Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventative maintenance instructions; troubleshooting equipment; calling for service. Performs daily quality assurance testing and monitoring established by the department in a timely manner.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains professional acumen through active association with
professional organizations. Shows evidence of continuing education
in radiogrpahy as necessary to remain current with profession.
Attends in?service educational programs and departmental meetings.

 

Initiates requisitions, adds or modifies charges, acknowledges
exams, requiring the use of the computer. Ability to recognize and
report malfunction of radiographic equipment appropriately.

Certifications and Licensures:

BLS: Basic Life Support
Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer

 

ARRT: Reg Radiologic Technologist
Equivalent Experience: ARRT registry or registry eligible required.

 

ARRT M: Mammographer
Equivalent Experience: Obtain ARRT mammography certification within one year of hire date.

 

 

 

Required Education:

Education: Associates Degree
Equivalent Experience: AMA approved radiologic technology program required.

 

 

 

Other Information:

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

One (1) year clinical experience is preferred

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with
individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to
communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable
manner.

Provides for the age specific needs of the population served
according to department standards and policies/procedures as
evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback for the
following: Neonate/Infant, Toddler, Child, Adolescent, Adult and
Later Adult.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public
contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

 

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex
materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

 

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted
device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as
outlined in the job description.

 

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted
device(s).

 

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May
require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or
crouching.

 

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially
infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne
pathogen and TB testing as required
