Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey’s Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating. 

As Director of Lake Rickabear Camp, you’ll be the visionary and driving force behind all outdoor programming—from our vibrant summer day camp to year-round opportunities that welcome Girl Scouts, families, and community partners. This is more than a camp management role—it’s an entrepreneurial leadership opportunity where your creativity, business acumen, and passion for developing young leaders will directly fuel the growth and sustainability of one of our council’s most treasured properties.

Position Summary:

The Director of Lake Rickabear role is a dynamic and strategic leader responsible for the overall management and success of the Girl Scout summer camp experience. This role oversees all aspects of camp operations, including staff leadership, camper experience, safety, and program development in partnership with our Director of Jockey Hollow Camp to offer year round program experiences and GSNNJ summer day camps.. In addition to traditional summer camp programming, the Director will manage outside rentals, oversee the pickleball programming, and develop innovative, mission-aligned experiences that engage girls year-round.

The Director is accountable for meeting revenue and enrollment goals, ensuring high-quality programming and a delivery plan to support the goals and objectives of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey consistent with GSUSA’s Leadership; maintaining strong relationships with families, community partners, and vendors; and for the retention of a diverse group of girl scout and adult members. This position requires a creative, entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for youth development in an outdoor, experiential setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Grow impact & revenue: Drive enrollment and maximize utilization of camp programs and property,      ensuring Lake Rickabear is both mission-rich and financially strong. This includes our summer camp program, year-round camp program activities and usage of our Pickleball courts, making our camping experience accessible to a diverse membership base. Oversee outdoor programming and encampments.
  • Lead with vision: Develop and execute a comprehensive program strategy in collaboration with Director of Jockey Hollow Camp, aligned with Girl Scouts’ Leadership Experience, setting ambitious goals and achieving measurable outcomes 
  • Deliver excellence: Oversee all operations, staffing, and safety compliance while creating a welcoming, high-quality experience for every camper and guest. Ensure that GSUSA, ACA, federal, state and local laws and standards pertaining to program and property are met. Ensure that properties and program events and activities are in full compliance with council, local, state, and federal regulations, codes and laws.
  • Build partnerships: Forge intentional collaborations with schools, businesses, and community organizations to broaden our reach and      strengthen financial performance. In collaboration with Director of Jockey Hollow Camp, helps foster and implement the council’s policy to strive for a volunteer, employee and program participant population reflective of the area’s religious, racial, ethnic, social and economic diversity.
  • Market  with creativity: Work hand-in-hand with our Marketing & Communications team to promote Lake Rickabear as the go-to destination for outdoor fun and leadership growth.
  • Manage the business: Develop and monitor budgets, evaluate program performance, and provide the COO with regular analysis of enrollment trends, financial results, and opportunities for growth.
  • Analyze the Data: Understand the data trends associated with the camp and outdoor program business, track trends, benchmark business decisions against competitors and use the data to inform recommendations.
  • Recruit and inspire: Build a high-performing seasonal and year-round staff team that’s motivated to deliver innovative, engaging programs. This includes all camp activities, encampments, and seasonal camp.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Staff members are accountable for achieving their performance goals that collectively enable GSNNJ to reach our council goals. Each staff member is expected to take an active role in all areas of operations, especially by being alert to opportunities to identify and engage potential volunteers, girl members, donors, vendors, collaborators, etc. and providing contact information to the appropriate staff person.

Requirements

  

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in related field.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience with emphasis on strong team building.
  • Camp and facility management experience is required.
  • Experience facilitating American Camp Association accreditation.
  • Excellent Leadership presence with ability inspire teams and drive results.
  • Tactful written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management capability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Membership in GSUSA is required upon employment and annually thereafter (cost covered by the council).
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile and auto insurance.
